I think this one might be slightly defective because I have to keep charging it and it's very fickle about turning on. I have tested it out in places that I know there are cameras and microphones (in both powered on and off) and it sometimes detects and sometimes doesn't. As well I know what I am looking for. If I were in a hotel room or a rental property, I wouldn't already know what I am looking for. And given how small recording devices are now, you really want something reliable. I would not say that I don't recommend or do recommend this because I think it depends upon your needs and what you are looking for. If I was traveling a lot, I would spend more money on something more robust at detection and refined in defining what I am finding. Read more
This is a pretty interesting tool and I was curious to see how well it would actually work. I tested it around my home and it was able to pick up signal sources and even detect hidden lenses, which was impressive. That gave me some confidence that the device is doing what it claims. The different detection modes are useful depending on what you're trying to check for. It’s small, portable, and easy enough to move around a room when scanning different areas. I wasn’t able to fully test the GPS detection yet since I don’t currently have any GPS tracking devices around to try it with. Once I get the chance to test that feature, I’ll update my thoughts on how well that part performs. The only thing I had to ding it for is the instruction manual. The text is extremely small and honestly pretty difficult to read without struggling. It would have been much better if the instructions were printed larger or included a clearer guide. Overall though it seems like a useful tool for travel or checking unfamiliar spaces, and it did perform well in the tests I was able to run. Read more
We recently traveled to a vacation rental and were curious if this product would do what it claims…. I’m here to tell you it actually does. We had forgotten we brought it with us until we had settled in and were sitting in the living room area enjoying a few drinks when my husband remembered we had brought this with us…. He went and grabbed it out of his bag and we went on a search throughout the vacation rental and we were astonished to find 4 hidden cameras. We immediately called the Host who did not divulge to us prior to the rental about these cameras. We were promptly refunded for our stay and quickly offered another location free of charge. We declined both, packed back up, left the location and reported the Host immediately. We won’t go anywhere without this anymore…. Read more
What a piece of scammy plastic. Wow. I was pretty excited about this, not necessarily for safety but for fun. I charged it up, it has a usbc port, standard, easy. So let’s test it. I put in the right mode to check for cameras and walked around making sure to expose the device clearly to our Arlo cameras. It never detected a single one. Ohhhhh k. Let’s check for microphones. Switch modes. Walk toward the recorder in the corner … nnnnnope. All clear says the detector. That was enough to tell me all I needed to know. They can keep it. This is the “upgraded” version so I can’t even imagine how bad the original must have been. Don’t bother buying this, as far as I can tell it’s just another way for someone to prey on people’s fear. This detector works by detecting on most of the ring cameras I have around my house as well as my home wi-fi stations.as well as my iPhone. It did not reliably identify my Ring front door camera as transmitting when the camera was known to be transmitting. It also indicates on magnetic fields, but you have to be close, as in within 2" with a strong magnet. I could identify the IR light on a camera, but positioning is important to crucial. I don't know how successful I would be in discovering an unknown IR source. Read more
I’ve spent some time getting familiar with this upgraded hidden camera and GPS tracker detector, and overall it does what it promises—once you learn how to use it properly. The key is understanding the sensitivity settings. I found that keeping it on max sensitivity while scanning a room helps pick up potential signals quickly, but you’ll want to dial it down as you get closer to the source. For most situations, mid-range sensitivity is all you’ll need. The unit itself is compact and easy to travel with, though the build quality feels a bit lightweight compared to higher-priced devices. That said, it has been reliable once I understood its behavior. It picks up RF signals, helps identify transmitting devices, and is useful for checking hotel rooms, bathrooms, Airbnbs, or rental spaces for hidden trackers or cameras. My one disappointment is the viewfinder. With many modern cameras using non‑reflective coverings, the viewfinder didn’t help as much as I hoped—so don’t rely on that feature alone. Still, as an RF detector and general scanning tool, it’s effective. I plan to take it with me on all future trips, especially when staying in unfamiliar Airbnbs.
