Very pleased with these heavy duty chair mats. Description says they are 1/5 inch thick, but they seem (perform) thicker. If you have had issues with chair mats on top if plush(er) carpets, this should be the solution, and they hold up perfectly under a 270lb person in an office chair on our "short shag" carpet. I ordered 2 to support 2 chairs under a long crafting table. They arrived in a single flat box. The box was pretty beat up in shipment, but the mats had protective film on both sides and were in a (thin) protective bag. Both mats were in excellent condition, despite the rough treatment the box took. The protective film was easily removed (no adhesive, just thick cling plastic). Since these are so thick AND they were shipped flat, there was no issue with having to unroll or flatten the mats. You could not roll this mat anyway- they are very nice rectangle sheets of thick, flat plexiglass. Some other reviews mentioned the mat tends to move during use, and I ran into a bit of that as well. I placed some 'grippy" material underneath and that helped tremendously (but not completely). I feel that is a minor issue compared to the other qualities (hard, flat, supportive, works on thicker carpet, etc). If it ever becomes and issue, I will use a set of "carpet keepers" to keep it totally motionless. Like I said, I am very happy with this purchase. Read more
Crystal Clear and Built to Last This chair mat impressed me right away with its clarity—it’s practically invisible once laid down, so the look of the carpet or hardwood underneath still shows through. The 1.5 mm thickness strikes a good balance: sturdy enough to handle daily rolling of an office chair without warping, yet not so heavy that it’s difficult to move or reposition. Unlike some mats that curl or crack over time, this one lays flat and stays put, which really helps maintain a clean look in the office. I tested it on both a medium-pile carpet and hardwood floor, and it performed well in both settings. On carpet, the mat provides a smooth surface for rolling without sinking in or bunching. On hardwood, it protects against scuffs and scratches while keeping the chair glide easy and consistent. The edges are smooth, so there’s no risk of snagging socks or scratching bare feet. One thing to keep in mind: while the mat is heavy duty, it’s still best to avoid sharp impacts or dragging furniture across it, as that could leave marks. It also arrived rolled up but flattened out fully within a short time, which was a pleasant surprise compared to cheaper mats that take days. Bottom line: A well-made, clear, and reliable chair mat that blends into the room while protecting your floors and making rolling around effortless. Read more
Like many others, during the COVID lockdown I began working remotely and needed to build a home office. The kids are all grown and moved out on their own now, so we turned our daughter's room into an office/spare bedroom. We redeorated, painted and got new carpeting. I was looking for a carpet protector but didn't want one of those thin plastic carpet protectors with the spikes on the bottom - been there, done that, and it seems like those get discolored, crack easily and don't last long. I saw this one and it looked thick enough. It had overall great reviews and the description said it was more durable than tempered glass and can withstand up to 1200 pounds of pressure. I'm not a small man, but nowhere even remotely close to 1200 pounds! So I bought one, and it was really great! It was crystal clear, the carpet looked great underneath, and my chair rolled on it perfectly. It didn't seem to scuff with my chair rollers and I was very happy with it. One thing I found was it did tend to move around a bit on the carpet - not really noticeably while sitting on it, but over the course of a few hours I would look and it has moved away from the desk a couple inches. I just moved it back in place and it didn't bother me. One day I was sitting down and dropped something on the floor and bent down to pick it up and I heard a sound like something had snapped. I looked around and didn't see anything and didn't think much about it. A bit later I heard it again and that's when I saw a small crack developing in the floor protector. It had been about 6 months since I bought it so I was not able to return it to Amazon. I tried to contact the seller since the product description said it came with a 12 month warranty, but I could not find the contact information for the seller. I called Amazon and they agreed to let me return it after all and I ordered a new one. Same experience - it worked well and everything was fine...again for about 6 months. The floor protector cracked again, and this time it was much more noticeable. I decided just to keep it because the cracks didn't seem to affect the chair rolling on it and I didn't want the hassle of trying to return it again, especially since when I returned the first one I had to pack it in cardboard before the UPS store would send it, since this is solid and doesn't fold up. Well, the cracks over the past couple weeks have gotten worse so I'm going to have to find something else. Overall it seems like most people have had great experiences with this product, and so did I for a while. Too bad it didn't last for as long as I hoped. Read more
Maybe 4 star but really happy with this. Polycarbonate (PC) is way to go —- clear, hard, no sips/bumps over time like the old (albeit cheaper) pvc/plastic chair mats I used for years. Only 2 downsides. One is pure rectangle with no nut for under desk. But I really didn’t need in my personal set up as carpet ends and tile starts right at desk — straddling multi-surface hard on any of these products. Second downside is mat can slowly, imperceptibly “slide” over time (left for me because I roll that way most). Only few inches and can’t feel it. Just have to recenter maybe once a week. Still 5 star because I think unavoidable. If had “teeth” that gripped carpet like my old cheap pvc/plastic mats, would not be as clear, hard, smooth and durable — and as kind to my carpet nap? Best I’ve had in 40 years of sitting/living at a desk! (TMI? Got this product bc got new carpet after removing old plastic mat that had crushed old carpet, was stained from carpet, and was ugly mess!). Read more
