Works great

I was hesitant to buy this for my needs. It is great if you are going to use a combination of USB devices, but my need was for connecting 3-4 External USB powered WD or Seagate hard drives. I was concerned that the 5v 2a power supply would not be enough to power all of these at once. These are 2TB-5TB external portable drives. I couldn't find the power requirements for them, but once the hub drivers were installed I was able to connect one drive at a time until 4 were connected and was able to even copy between them at near USB3 speeds. I plan on using this for only 2 or 3 connected at the most, so should not have an issue. I have another 7 port USB3 hub with 3 charge ports and it has a 12v power supply with more amperage. If I were going to run 4 drives continuously like this I would use it, but for these needs this is a great hub and I liked I could mount it to my rack. One thing to note, it did take several minutes for Windows 10 and Server 2008 to download and install the drivers. Connect the hub and watch your Systray for the information that it is ready to use before connecting anything to it. I switched USB ports on my computer and it had to reinstall again, so stay consistent. Read more

Works well. Very sturdy.

The cord is long enough for us to have this installed chest high. Sturdy materials of the brackets mean pulling out a cord is no problem. I wish it had 6 plugs. Read more

Solid Hub, plug and play

You can mount this with the 4 screw holes, it has its own dedicated power supply and works great through a USB 3.0 Extension cable. Comes with a solid USB 3.0 Cable and DC power adapter. Has a cool internal blue LED. Solid metal construction. Read more

USBGear 4-Port USB 3.2 Gen 1 Mountable Charging and Data Hub

I got this hub to expand USB ports on a new mini PC. I too use multiple external drives and have no issues with the included power adapter handling the load. Transfer speeds are good, all metal construction is very good and seems like a quality product in general. As someone else mentioned this hub has bright led lights which are on constantly. This I don't like and simply doesn't work for me. I opened the case and found the led lights soldered to the pcb. My options were de-solder each led or somehow disable them. I used a pair electronics needle nose pliers to crush the 4 led, cleaned the pcb and that worked fine. cheers Read more

Excellent

I'm not really using it the right way. It's bolted to the wall next to the sofa to keep my goodies charged up. For that it does pretty good. I can't speak for it's ability to move data on a computer, but for charging devices it's great. It's the only gang charger that properly bolts to something to secure it. Read more

A disappointing discovery

For context, I am a mechatronics engineering student with a singificant amount of experience with DIY electronics projects. I bought this to serve as an internal powered USB hub for a 3d printer I'm designing and making from scratch. To prep it for installation, i had planned to swap out the barrel jack for two wires soldered direct to the PCB to save some space [warranties fear me]. When I disassembled the hub, I noticed that the ground pins on all 5 USB ports had far less solder than ideal, and many of the data pins also seemed a bit "malnourished" themselves, albeit to a lesser degree. When connecting components to PCBs via through holes, it is highly unusual to leave enough of a gap that you can still see through the board when finished. When reading other reviews, I noticed many of them mentioned issues with long term reliability or durability, and I suspect my discovery is the main cause. It's a real shame, because the build quality of the housing is otherwise very nice. I feel the need to clarify I can't yet corroborate these complaints, as I have yet to put my USB hub to the test long term. Luckily, this should be cheap and easy for the manufacturer to correct if they read my review. While this isn't a big deal for me to fix, I suspect it would be a susbtantial inconvenience for most consumers. Read more
