Actually it's really nice for what it is. I have this on a medium pile carpet, so it does slide out of place a bit now and then, but that's kind of the nature of the beast... taller carpet = less likely to stay put. Not a huge deal. I like it very much, it protects my new carpeting, and I have a nice oversized office chair that rolls nicely... almost too nicely sometimes! I have had the plastic mats for years. I am 330 lbs with a heavy office chair. I will get a plastic mat and as soon as I start rolling around, the plastic will give in a little to my weight and all I feel as I roll around is a bumpy or jerky roll. At least it was better than rolling on the plain carpet. I opened the package on this and saw that this mat is actually glass and much larger too. in one of the attached pictures, I put my old plastic mat in front of the new glass, just to show the size difference. I have to admit, I was very nervous about putting glass under my weight. I was also nervous, that it was going to break before I got it on the floor. The 40x80 inch glass was very rigid and laid down without much flex at all. Once in position, it covered the ENTIRE area behind my desk and not just the little space where the desk opening in the middle was. I very carefully put my chair on it and rolled it around. I then sat on the chair and rolled around. It did not crack or flex under my weight. I now don't even think about it. I flop down on my chair and I roll all over as I work in the office. The only thing is that the glass is thick, so if I roll off the edge, I have to lift myself up before rolling back onto the glass. This is not a big deal, but noticeable. Other than that, I really love how I can now just glide back and forth on my chair with this new glass mat. Read more

I have to admit I ordered this without noticing the pattern! I just looked at the size and the price and thought, “that's fairly reasonable”. So when I got this out of the packaging, I had a surprise. The pattern works in my office because I have light colored flooring, but if your floor is made of dark wood, the pattern would just disappear on top of it. So the key things influencing your decision to buy are whether you have dark colored flooring, and whether you want a pattern in a product of this kind. I'm not so sure I want the pattern now I have it. Apart from that, this is a very heavy duty product. It is much easier to slide it into place while it’s still in the packaging. If you remove the packaging first, it does not slide on its edge easily (whereas the box does). If you have to carry it around, you will need another person to help you, and you'll need to be careful how you carry it. I appreciate this mat being suitable for both carpets and hard floors. This means next time I move, it can probably go with me rather than turning out to be inappropriate for a new surface. I don't really need the anti-slip pads on my carpet, but I think they would be useful on a hard floor. The size of this mat makes a real difference. On a smaller mat, I could see myself wheeling off the edge and then having to get myself back on, but the way my office is set up, this is perfect for my needs. I think it should cover the needs of almost anyone who wants a product of this kind, provided they have room. Delivery from Amazon is a major benefit. We would never have got this into the back of our car if we had bought it at an office supplies chain. If I was buying again, I would check for alternatives without the pattern before I made a decision; but functionally, this does everything I require, feels safe, and chairs roll on it freely.
