I used trays, then whitening strips, for years (i smoke and guzzle coffee). I finally gave up bc of the inconvenience of staying home, not eating or drinking for an hour. I have never been a smoker, but I have been a coffee drinker for years. I even used to drink my coffee black, and I prefer red wine to white. These habits took a toll on my teeth, and once, many years ago, I even had my teeth professionally whitened, which produced a noticeable result that garnered many compliments. But years passed, and I did not want to repeat the process because of the cost and also because of the aftershocks, sometimes called "zingers" -- sudden pains in my teeth that would have been unbearable if they hadn't been transient.
