Really solid 3-channel dash cam overall. I installed two of these in a few hours using the included installation kits, which made the process much more manageable than I expected. The hardwire kits have everything you need and the instructions are clear enough that you don't need to be an expert to get it done. Triple camera coverage — front, interior cabin, and rear — gives great peace of mind on the road. My one gripe is visibility of the camera mount plates. From a distance or when other vehicles pass by, the plates are hard to notice, which somewhat reduces the deterrent effect of having a visible dash cam setup. A more prominent or contrasting design on the mount would be a nice improvement. That aside, the video quality is impressive, especially the dual 4K front and rear setup. Build quality feels premium and the STARVIS 2 sensors perform well in low light. A great choice for anyone wanting full 3-channel coverage — just be prepared to work around the visibility limitation. The USB model they used is very slow. The WiFi is slow. The app used for cellphones is trash. You cannot connect an external ssd like the other model. Read more
I have had a previous dash cam but didn't like the screen... so when I saw that this one was a much nicer screen I was eager to give it a try. This cam does not play games. It feels like a high quality dash cam and you immediately get why the dual 4k front and rear footage plus the 210 degree fisheye cabin can mean nothing slips through the cracks inside or out. Day or night it's really bringing some clear and crisp video which actually captures details that matter like license plates. The wifi makes pulling clips way faster than SD only systems. Setup was straight forward and similar to my other dash cam. This cam brings all the updated features to my car and makes it obvious to insurance what happend... thus I can highly recommend this cam to others. Read more
I purchased this item new about three weeks ago and every time I start my vehicle it says two channels recording, then says one channel recording, it has a short in the connection which is ridiculous for the money that I paid for this and what it claims to provide. It’s not acceptable for this to work part time. I’m going to exchange it and if that doesn’t work I will be returning the unit for a full refund. Read more
Really happy with this dash cam setup. What sold me was how it all works together - front and rear footage is super clear, and the cabin fisheye is the best part because it actually captures the whole inside (and even a lot of the side windows) instead of missing stuff. That extra coverage makes me feel way safer driving, especially at night. Setup wasn’t bad either, and once it’s running the app/Wi-Fi is quick for checking clips. I also like having GPS and voice control so I’m not messing with buttons while driving. Overall, it feels like “full coverage” instead of just a basic dash cam. Read more
Overall, this VIOFO A229 is a high-quality, premium dashcam system that is competitively priced for everything it offers, including high-end hardware and premium features. There's one major disappointment with this purchase, however, which is that it doesn't come with an SD card, which means you'll be tacking on another $30-120 if you do as they recommend and buy one of theirs. For the high price point, it felt like a let down to not have even a 32GB starter SD Card included in the purchase. I ended up replacing my other 3-Channel dashcam with this one, despite it having 3 cameras, a built-in display and some similar features, because this excels in almost every way. Getting all of the hardware installed in my car was a very similar experience to the last 2 cams I've used. Pick a spot for the antistatic sticker on the front windshield and mount the main unit. Repeat the process for the fisheye cabin cam and plug it in to the main cam, then install the rear cam on the inside of my rear window and route the cable back to the front of the car, which is really the only "difficult" or time consuming part of setup, which is true for any multi-channel cam system. I had a trim prybar set on hand already from previous cams, I just had to go through the process of replacing the old wire and cam with the new one. In total, I spent about 45 minutes to an hour on getting it all set up. The process was pretty painless, and easy enough. If you're not good with tools and electronics, you'll probably want help from someone that is, at least for running the wire from the back. As with most of the cameras I've tried before this, the antistatic stickers combined with the adhesive on the cameras themselves worked very well to keep them secure, even in colder winter climate. Just ensure your window is warmed up before you do this, as it likely won't stick as well when you mount it if the window is very cold. Once I had everything mounted and installed, I plugged the unit in and the device booted up without issues. Navigating the menus was straightforward and I found the 5Ghz connection nice and quick for transferring the large files that 4k format will generate. If you're looking to purchase this setup, keep a few added expenses in mind when you factor in total cost: you'll need an SD card, and they highly recommend one of their own for high performance and compatibility, you'll probably want a CPL filter for the rear camera, which isn't included, and if you're buying a dashcam this expensive, you'll likely want a hardwire kit for 24/7 monitoring, which is also a separate purchase. I am really happy with the performance of this system, despite the fumble of not including a small capacity SD card. For this price it's a premium system, and although there are better on the market (offering things like 60fps video and automatic cloud storage) you'll be adding another $2-300 USD to the price for them. Even though the footage quality was great, and liked fish eye cabin camera. BUT it stopped working exactly on the 10th day. The camera freezes at start up, nothing can be done. Unreliable, very disappointed. Returning, and looking into other brands... Read more
