I bought this 2 years ago and the DVD portion worked fine at first. We have this for a second TV and almost never use it. Now the screen blacks out every now and then for a second when watching DVDs (even those fresh out of the packaging). I tried hooking this up to an external hard drive and never got it working right. Bought this player a week ago. I was a little skeptical after reading one of the reviews. Plus the price was very good. But I purchased it anyway. Have to be careful when reading reviews because many people don't know what they're doing. This player was easy to set up. Plug it in. Run the HDMI cord to the tv. Turn on the unit and the tv. Put the tv on HDMI input. There is a menu for set up. It's easy if you read the instructions. Most of the settings didn't have to be changed. That's it. Put in your disc. I couldn't believe the difference in the picture. It is high def. You can't go wrong buying this player. The price is about $40 cheaper than a name brand. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because the remote is small. It could be larger. Read more

I ordered a Viore from Walmart.com for $24 & free Site to Store shipping. Several people @ Walmart.com complained about quality control issues. I bought one anyway, hoping I would beat Viore's high side poor quality control. Besides, its easy to return it. I had some concerns right away. Toshiba is a great designer and maker of TVs but their poorly written manuals are legendary. Panasonic's are much better but need improvement. Viore beats them. The user guide is horrible and it says something that's outright wrong. It instructs owners to set the HDMI to output. The HDMI is output only and cannot be set. There is no mention of reset, which is very important for this unit, as it seems to have internal flash memory. It took me, a gadget guy, 30 minutes to get the unit synchronised with my Sanyo LCD. The Viore user guide does not mention a setup order but that is what it took. I had to turn the TV on first, set it to HDMI input, then turn on the Viori. Some Walmart buyers mention plugging and replugging their HDMI cable before it synchronised with their TV. This is a HDMI hook up Player. The result was surprising. I definitely got an upconverted picture and the sound was great. After two hours of play, I decided to go into setup. I noticed the menu was not set on 1080, so I changed it from 720 to 1080. The picture went out immediately. For some reason, the unit could not send the better signal to my TV. Here is the deal killer. No matter what I did, I could not get the Viore to link a picture to my TV again. No matter what I did, I got "No Signal" from my TV. Yes, I unplugged the player overnight. I found a tiny hole by the display that looked like a reset button. It isn't. The guide does not mention reset. My advice is to forget this player and get the workhorse Magnavox MDV2100/F7. Its HDMI or Component A/V cable (three color coded RCA type plugs on each end, red, white, yellow and it comes with the cable. The Viore doesn't include a cable. The Magnavox requires no tweaking.
