I grabbed this Wallaby emergency sleeping bag/kit mainly to feel prepared, and honestly, it delivered. It’s ultralight, packs down ridiculously small, and once you’re wrapped in it you can actually feel the heat staying in. The built-in paracord and carabiners? I could see these being surprisingly handy. Minor complaint: it doesn’t turn me into Bear Grylls, but that feels like unfair expectations. Perfect for your emergency kit, car stash, camping pack, or just to impress friends who think you actually know what you’re doing. I tested one on a chilly night while camping and it actually held heat surprisingly well (Think NYC weather). It’s definitely not a luxury sleeping bag, but for emergencies or backup gear, it does exactly what it’s supposed to. Packs down small, lightweight, and the included whistle/paracord is a nice touch. I ordered these because I have kids who are going to start driving this year, and I have been wanting something like this for them to keep in the car. I was very excited to receive them! I immediately opened everything up and took one of the Mylar sleeping bags outside to test it out. It was a very cold night where I am (I’m sure it gets colder elsewhere). I believe the temps were right around freezing. I did not take my coat out, just a hoodie, sweatpants, socks, and unlined crocs. I sat on my porch wrapped in the Mylar bag for about 10 minutes. While I certainly wasn’t comfy and cozy, I was not freezing and was relatively warm enough for that amount of time. I can’t say how long it would have kept me warm for. After 10 minutes I got a little bored so I went inside. I found it incredibly difficult to fold back up while also being able to fit back in the bag! Like so difficult I was ready to say forget it and throw it out. After numerous tries I finally got it to fit. It also snagged on the carabiner clip that came with it when I was folding it up and it did rip a hole in it. Despite everything, overall, this is a decent set, especially for an emergency. And while with the difficulty I would consider it a one time use, at the current price point of about $17 I personally think it’s worth it. Read more

The first thing I noticed when beginning to review these emergency sleeping bags was the extra length. (Keep in mind that the purpose of this product is to prevent you from freezing to death in harsh environments.) At over 100 inches long there is plenty of room for even the tallest people, leaving you additional room to pull the bag above your head once you are inside and hold it closed with your hands to stay warm, occasionally opening it a tiny bit to let fresh air in, while at the same time trying to not let your heat escape. These are mylar sleeping bags, not designed for comfort. They are very lightweight. Your ability to stay warm and retain up to 90% of your body heat will greatly depend on your consistency in keeping it closed at the end once you are inside to prevent your body heat from escaping. The width is 36 inches, so unless your waist is greater than 72 inches in circumference, you can be sure you'll fit. These emergency sleeping bags come in two separate, drawstring, high-visibility, waterproof bags, each of which has an emergency whistle on the end of it. There are two carabiners included with a small segment of paracord in between them, which, when unraveled, measures 48 inches long. The paracord looks cool braided up but unraveling it can be time and energy consuming in an emergency situation, which is why I always unravel these beforehand, so it doesn't become an obstacle if I ever found myself in an emergency situation. The paracord is 21 strand, 7 core. There is also a well thought out Pocket Survival Guide which came sealed up in a little pouch along with the sleeping bags. I photographed both sides of it, but I don't know if the upload quality will make it clear enough to read. It is full of lots of practical and useful information regarding emergency situations. Overall I feel like this package is a great value for the price they are asking. When compared with several other options for 2 pack emergency sleeping bags these have come out on top every time.
