stunning for the value!

Let's get the tantalizing stuff out of the way first. A guy I work with guessed (from looking at it) that the watch was worth $300-400. A mutual friend also way overvalued it. Another reviewer mentioned that they usually have to remove a few links, but this fit perfectly right out of the box. I had that same experience, as did my two friends that tried it on. We all also observed that it did not pull our arm hair. I was apprehensive at first about buying an elastic band watch. My assumption was that the elastic would either be weak or weaken over time. Too soon to tell that, but for now, the elastic is VERY strong. I included a picture of the 3 (relevant) watches for comparison. The Guess watch was my first buy and I liked a lot about it. The way the day takes 3 hours to transition was something I was hoping I could improve upon. Not realizing at the time that this is just the way things are. I thought maybe a readout where the day was shorter (radius vs circumference) would help this. Enter the Seiko SUR434. BY FAR my favorite watch of all. However, it didn't really solve the problem. The Seiko is dual language, so it clicks from Thursday to Spanish Thursday and THEN to Friday. Well, this watch that I'm reviewing for you is not multi-lingual. It still has to click twice because that's just how a day complication in the movement works. But this watch goes Thursday, Thursday, then Friday. So when I set the watch, I put it on the 2nd instance of the current day. That way, as shown in the photo, the first transition takes you to the correct day. Almost 2 hours ahead of the competition, but at a fraction of the cost. I am not a watch collector, but being new to it, I bought a few options that didn't cost too much to try and figure out which I liked and why. This is a solid watch that I can wear anywhere without worrying about destroying it. Then, if I feel like getting dressed up, maybe I put on the Seiko. Thank you for reading. I know it was long, but I wanted to let folks know 1) That this thing punches WELL above its price point and 2) answer some questions that I had before making the purchase. One final note. The only real con about this watch. And that is that the crown is somewhat difficult to pull out. I bite my nails and I am able to use my thumbnail without much difficulty. HOWEVER, the crown tends to go to the 2nd position out. Try to push it back in and again, it likes to skip the middle position. Thankfully, I'll only need to do this a few times a year. Still, I think making the middle position more tactile would go a long way. Oh and the Sunday is in red. I've seen other watches do this and when you're trying to do a gold motif, it really stands out as an eye sore. But so does my Seiko, so I'm guessing this is fairly common. Still, I don't care for it. I'll decide what days are special for me and why. Read more

Great watch

Love the day and date on the watch, the links are a bit hard to adjust, and it does pinch the hair on my arm sometimes. Like the classic design. But overall, I think it’s a great buy and would recommend. Read more

Sadly kind of meh even for an inexpensive beater.

This is definitely on the "functional" end of watch design. It just feels ... cheap is too harsh... It feels meh. Even though it is not trying to be pretty, I'm a bit underwhelmed. I'm going back and forth though on 3 or 4 stars. It's thin. It's lightweight. It is functional. I'm going to go with 3 though. The expanding link design I just find uncomfortable. It catches my wrist hair a lot. Being a smaller watch however, perhaps more for the crowd that doesn't have hair on their arms. The thin hands make it only marginally easy to read, so I just can't really give it 4 stars since easy read was in the description. Read more
