These are just the sweetest little water shoes. The axolotl is a cute touch that any fan is sure to like. It is printed on the canvas part of the shoe and is not a decal, so it has an almost watercolor-like appearance. Even though it isn't a crisp image, I actually prefer it this way because decals never stayed on my kids shoes. They were way too hard on them. The shoes themselves are nice. They are flexible and soft. There are two velcro closures - one on either side of the shoe. I think that is a nice feature, especially for water shoes, so that they can be more evenly tightened. It helps to prevent the tension from being carried by just one side of the shoe which tends to lead to blisters when shoes are wet. I also like that the toe is fully enclosed. It will help keep the toes protected when on black top or creek stomping etc., as well as keep the toe of the shoe from getting caught on things which can trip a kiddo. I also like that the top of the shoes is made with spandex. It not only makes water shoes more comfortable, but helps to prevent blisters and helps to keep the shoes from becoming waterlogged since the water can move through them pretty freely. It can also help to keep objects, like shell fragments, from getting stuck in the shoe. It's hard to tell for sure without being able to wear them in the water, but there is a decent tread on the bottom of these shoes that seem like they will provide good traction in the water. I bought these toddler wide barefoot water shoes for my 5 year old daughter. We mainly use these for the pool or playing outback in the water during summer. The bottom sole is very sticky rubber to keep from slipping which is important around the pool. They are also flexible and not too difficult to bend. The shoe opens via two velcro points which both open for easier on and off. This means my daughter can get her own shoes on and off which is important (for both of us!). The bottom sole also comes out for help with drying or cleaning. My daughter loves the little dog on the sole to indicate which shoe goes on which foot. Very smart way to help her and I love that it comes with that built in. My daughter finds the sandal very comfortable and roomy in the toe area. (This was a free product through the vine program) Watelves toddler wide barefoot swim shoes. I ordered these swim shoes for my granddaughter. We have a pool and the concrete around it is hot so I wanted a pair for our house. These fit perfectly I ordered a size 6. I love the velcro easy on and off and stay on feet better than slides. While trying the velcro I found something that really impressed me. On the inside of the shoes near the heels each shoe has half a dog if you put your shoes on correctly it makes a picture of a dog if not the dog does not line up correctly. Now the 18m old I got them for might not get this but a older child would. Genius! The print is cute. The soles have good tread. The water shoes are user friendly. The price is a good value. Thick rubber sole is solid protection from hot or uneven ground. Sole adds grip.. a nice perk on slippery surfaces! These are true to size and easy to get on and off, as the top peels away from the bottom to get wet little feet in and out. The outer soles feel sturdy enough to protect feet from rocks and such, but are still very flexible. I got them wet and they dried fairly quickly, especially after removing the sole. I got these for my niece for summer (they're still too big, but she'll fit them fine in a few months, so I cannot speak to the way they fit unfortunately), and they're very cute! I tested the Velcro and they're easy to open and close, so she should be able to put them on herself. The axolotls are a cute and unusual option, but it's interesting how many design elements this pair shares with some of the other shoe designs. Spider webs on the bottom seems normal for the pairs that have spider webs on them, but not really little sea creatures. And the paw prints on the Velcro and the back of the sole are also kind of odd. I like that these shoes are a little unhinged though, and I know my niece will appreciate having unique shoes. I think for the price point, I'd expect maybe a few design options for the soles that were more neutral for the colors that don't go with spiderwebs. Read more
