If children can't be immature when they're children, when CAN they be immature?

The story concerns four sixth-graders who enjoy what they're doing, meanwhile oblivious to adult expectations. Sunny is a cheerleader who doesn't please the supervising teacher but doesn't care. Salem, as manager of the football team, doesn't manage it as many people would have her manage it, but doesn't care. Pickles is a member of a makeshift band which would never make it to Carnegie Hall. Eddie is in a football team which never wins. The end of the story takes place on Halloween night. Our four protagonists are torn between trick-or-treating and attending a school function where they are expected to partner dance. If you still don't get the idea, read "All Grown Up and No Place to Go" by David Elkind (0201483858). Read more

Excellent Book! Excellent Series!

My 11 year old daughter and I read this book and the whole series together, and we both laughed our way through each one. There were times when I had trouble reading out loud as I couldn't stop laughing long enough to get the words out. If you have a child who isn't much into reading, this series might be just the one to peak his/her interest. The friendships formed by 4 new middle-schoolers and their interactions will make you want to read the book straight through without putting it down. I highly recommend this book and the series!!!
