We adopted our puppy from a rescue organization that had no idea what breed mix she was. Everyone had their guesses so we decided to buy a doggie DNA test. Our vet recommended this brand and another one for most accurate results. Instructions are incredibly easy and the swab process was quick. Just send the swabs back in their prepackaged mailer. Can’t wait to get our results in a few weeks and see if we were close on breed guesses. I’ll update after we get them back to see if the price is worth the results! Purely based on ease of use, I’d recommend. *Update* we got the results and are thrilled! While they weren’t exactly what we were expecting (surprise!), they make complete sense with her size and looks. I’m confident the results are accurate. It helps us know what type of exercise she likes/needs and how to manage her diet/exercise going forward. I’m so happy we bought this! Still 100% recommend. Read more

So much fun. Ran comparison with another company and Wisdom is so much better! Faster results, more info. Read more
The directions are easy to follow! My 3.2# dachshund (?) didn't enjoy the swabbing of the inside of her cheek & gum but the retrieval process was easy. The return box and with the shipping paid to mail the kit back are all included. I'm so excited to get the results back but right now all we can do is wait. Read more
Shelby is our (now) two year old rescue dog. After a rough go the first couple of months with illnesses, I am happy to report that she is wonderfully healthy and happy and we all obviously love having her around. At the time of her rescue we were told that she was a Lab / German Shepard mix; that conclusion presumably being reached solely by looking at her and her litter-mates. Although she looks phenotypically black lab, some of her litter-mates had that German Shepard brown, so I was always curious as to Shelby's true lineage. As an aside, while I believe most of the folks who run shelters for pet rescues have the best of intentions for the animals and their futures, their goal is to get these pets adopted so they will often tell prospective adopters whatever they think the adopters want to hear in order to have them adopt a pet...in actuality very little can be truly known about these animals. That is not meant to discourage rescues because it is a very noble thing to do, but part of the reason I bought Wisdom Panel was to attempt to corroborate what we were told about our dog with what she looks like and how she behaves with some scientific documentation. Here goes. First off, the test is very simple to do, two cheek swabs are all that is needed and once completed you package them and send them to Wisdom Panel's laboratory for processing. A registration number comes with each test which allows you to set up an online profile for your dog and that profile is the place to which the progress and results of your dog's test are uploaded. For Shelby's test, it took about three weeks from when I mailed in the sample to when the results were ready. While I was initially underwhelmed with the "50% mixed breeds" result, a deeper look into the report helped fill in the blanks of just what "mixed breed" represented. That term is what Wisdom Panel attributes to genetic data which was present in our dog's DNA profile but which came from greater than three generations back. The additional data provided by Wisdom Panel helps you to narrow down just what those mixed breeds represent as even the mixed breed results contain genetic markers suggestive of certain breeds. We knew the Lab part, and the mixed breed part suggests that she is has a lot more lab in her from previous generations, but the 12.5% American Bulldog and 12.5% Chow Chow were big surprises to us. Overall, this test was a worthwhile purchase because it helped us learn a bit more about our dog. In addition to fun curiosity, I felt there was a value in knowing our dog's genetic profile because now we can be certain of things we thought we knew and have also learned some of what we, prior to the results, had no clue about. More in the sense of what to expect behaviorally, health wise, and life expectancy wise based on her unique genetic makeup. I attached a screenshot of Shelby's results and her profile picture which came directly from the information page of Wisdom Panel. In addition to that information, the results contain a percentage breakdown and breed family tree for the analyzed dog. Read more

This works as advertised. I was underwhelmed by the overall experience, but that isn't the fault of this product. It will do as advertised. Read more
Very easy to use and I love looking at the website. The website provides breed and a doggy family tree!! The test I ordered also scanned for basic genetic concerns, and now offers a genetic concern upgrade. While my dog's breed was not what I was expecting, the breeds DEFINITELY fit his traits. I highly recommend this test for anyone looking to learn about their dog's dna Read more
