This little drum has such cheery happy tones. Everyone who comes over is fascinated by its charm and ease. The value is excellent. I recommend purchasing larger mallets because the ones that come with the drum are rather small. This is on my list for gifting--can't go wrong with this! Read more
The sound is great for such a reasonable price Read more
I am so surprised that this little drum provides such a beautiful sound. A lot of the smaller drums sound a little tinny. I also like that there aren't that many tongues for a drum this size because that makes it easier to hit each tongue. (People more adept than I am might not see that as an issue.) Also, because it is a pentatonic drum, it is easy for me to just improvise and it always sounds wonderful despite my lack of expertise. Read more
It’s a great first tongue drum!! I can’t afford a bigger one at the moment but i still wanted to get one and play it so I bought this one I saw on a YouTube video and it is great! The sound is great with using the mallets not with the hand picks! I didn’t expect it to have so much resonance and it did. The tone is great! you can only really use the mallets on this small drum but that is expected all the other stuff included was amazing usually tongue drums just come with the mallets so that’s amazing that this little drum comes with a song book, mallets, cleaning instructions and a bag that’s awesome couldn’t be happier!! The media could not be loaded. If you want an instrument that kids can play and sounds beautiful regardless of what note they hit or if you want a drum for mediation or for easy improv than this 6-note drum is perfect! I got this for my little 2-year-old niece and nephew to play around with. I do find that playing with mallets sounds best (but I feel that way even with professionals playing more expensive drums). The tone is absolutely exquisite and the drum was tuned perfectly (I checked with my tuner at A=440hz)! That being said, if you are looking for a drum to play a wide variety of songs, then you are going to want a different drum with at least a full octave (8 notes) in a complete scale (this drum is in C-major pentatonic which means it skips B and F notes = 4 and 7 in number notation). The drum starts on middle C (C4 on the piano) and the highest note is the C an octave above that. The song book that comes with this 6-note drum only has 6 songs designated for it and they are nothing I’ve ever heard before (perhaps Chinese Nursery songs?). In order to play the written music which is usually in number or letter notation (common for tongue drums), you need to already know what the song sounds like to know the rhythm. Since I like a challenge, I found 5 folk songs in pentatonic scale that I was familiar with, so hopefully they work for a general Western audience (plus one pretty Chinese one), arranged them, and took photos which I attached to this review for you to print. In the video I played both a green version and a purple version of the drum (so you can compare the sounds with different finishes). I played the two folk songs that I thought might be the least well-known, Skye Boat Song and Jasmine Flower, so you can hear what they sound like. Since I have a limited number of notes, some of the songs have a few notes in a different octave compared to the original. (FYI - This drum is NOT magnetic so you can’t change the notes with magnets.) Read more

The media could not be loaded. This has such a lovely tone and resonance, so very happy with this little beauty. Well made, too, and comes with a simple drawstring black bag, stickers (which are super basic, cheap kind, would be nicer if the were clear), 3 mallets, etc. it’s really fun and easy to play and my little one enjoys it, too!! Definitely recommend it 😊 Read more
