As someone who has been lifting for years I can say with confidence that this set is exactly the quality you would expect to find at a real weight lifting gym. I've seen other reviews complain about the grip, but I don't see any issue with them. They are the gritty texture you find on most dumbbells and barbells, they are just brand new and not worn down like they usually are at the gym. The star clips work great, really locking the weight into place securely, though they are a little tedious to screw and unscrew but work better than the clamp style clips on barbells. The weight increments are a bit strange, I got the 60 lbs version so the lowest weight I can possibly do is like ~13 lbs for a dumbbell (I'm not sure how much the grips weigh) which is a bit high for stuff like lateral raises but nothing to be upset about. I can always buy another set with lighter and heavier weights, which I plan to do ASAP. The biggest complaints that I have is that, even with the connector piece, they are not very wide for barbell exercises. They are about the width of the preweighted barbells you find on those racks for upright rows and preacher curls. The other thing is that it leaves a bit of room between the grip on the dumbbells and the grip on the connector piece which is where I like to hold for curls, so I have to hold it a little bit wider or narrower than I normally would for preacher curls. Other than that though, this was an excellent investment and I'm very satisfied. These are pretty simple dumbbells. You get what it looks like. The handles are sturdy, and the weights are solid. There's some rubber on the handle where the weight sits and on the cap that holds the weights on so that they don't rotate and unscrew the cap while you're working out, so I haven't had them be loose or anything. I'm wishing, though, I had paid more to get a selectorized set. It's a hassle to change the weight of the dumbbells during a workout since it takes a while to unscrew the cap, add or remove weight, then screw the cap back on, four times. And the connector bar is even worse. Putting it onto one dumbbell is fine, since you can just rotate the bar to screw it on, but then when you go to put it on the other, you have to rotate an entire weighted dumbbell, and if you're not holding it perfectly straight, it can catch. So even though I have at least one workout where I'd like to use the connector bar for most of it, I only use it for a couple of exercises, the ones that would be using it in a row, so that I'm not having to put it on and take it off multiple times. 50lb pair + 60lb pair with connector in 2 separate orders. Cost was about $1.25 per lb, which is a great deal (Some vendors are asking $4 per lb). Long wait for them to become available due to COVID19. All parts intact and fit fine (weights, bars, collars, seals, connector). Use de-solve-it or goo-gone to remove the warning labels from the dumbbell bars. The connector screws further in one end than the other, but seems secure (I'm not planning to use it much anyway). Each collar includes a locking screw (I didn't see those in the pics and thought they migh only be on more expensive dumbells). I firmly hand tighten the collars and lock screws (without turning plates for extra tightness) and haven't had any issues with rattling/loose plates. I wouldn't use these dumbbells without gloves, as I get callouses using fairly smooth handled hex dumbbells and these bars have a rough grip. The weights I got with these 2 sets (3, 5, 7.5, 8lb) provide a lot of weight options. The 14" bar length securely accomodates 3 weights each end, which is ample for my future needs. There was some minor black flaking initially, but the plates still look fine. Update 2020/12/12. 3+ months of use by myself and son. I added a set (4) of 15lb yes4all weight plates when they were available at $1.50/lb. Now using the connector bar regularly. Really happy with the 14"x1" handle size for ease of buying compatible weights and ends not colliding. No problems so far. Read more
