8/1/2016 I have to change the rating once more again. After using it for a few months, i do not find this slippery any longer. It is dense, cushiony, and i am very happy with it. 4/26/2016 this is a follow up review after using this mat a few times. Initially I gave 5 stars to this mat soon after I received it just from the feel of it. But after using it a couple of times, I find its short coming. It is quite slippery. I don't know why but I find my feet slipping when I do the warrior poses and down dog. Some of the reviewers mentioned that issue but I thought they probably did not know how to do the poses. But I find that to be quite bothersome. I will contact the seller and find out if there is any thing to remedy the situation. My two yoga mats are several years old and they are showing their age. So I looked up Amazon and found this mat with great reviews. I wanted a mat not too thin or too thick, high density, and has good grip. This mat satisfies all those specs I have been looking for. Beautiful slate color, and did not notice any odors like some reviewers mentioned. Perfect thickness, and high density, very firm - no squish at all. Kind of heavy due to high density but don't mind a bit. I am going to use my old mat as under mat to give me the cushion I need for my knees and elbows. This is a steal for the price, so glad I found it with Amazon. Read more
I really like this mat. I've been regularly practicing yoga for about 3 years now (off and on for 5 years). I initially bought this mat because it was inexpensive, extra thick and long. And since I am 5'10" with wide hips, this is exactly what I wanted. I've been happy. I am able to hold many of the asanas even when I am sweating. The mat did have a funny smell when I got it but I simply wiped it down with a wet cloth, gave it a few hours to dry completely and then started my practice with it. The mat does get stained easily and it smells funny after about 5 yoga sessions. So I bought 3 more so that I will always have a math while the other dries. At $20 each, it's easy to do. Plus I bought other mats in other colors so I have a mat a home and at my job so I can always get a little practice in. I also bought XL Bean Yoga Mat Bags to protect my mat from dirt, dust and the sun. It fits the bag perfectly Update - June 2015 I previously bought a beige mat. It was fine but after 3 years, several sessions in the park, my cat and dog walking across with muddy feet and my own dirty feet, the mat seemed permanently stained even after multiple washes. I tried shampoo, body wash soap, chlorine, detergent, multi-cleaner, etc. The stains faded but never completely went away. The mat didn't smell funny but I was a little embarrassed to roll it out in class. I still use it at home for my own practice (I still love it) but decided to get a darker color. My only criticism is that I would steer clear from the lighter colors but the mat itself is still great and an important part of my practice. Read more
Overall, I'm quite satisfied with its performance. There are several aspects of this mat that I really appreciate, although there is one minor concern worth mentioning. On the positive side, the thickness of the mat provides excellent cushioning and support, which is crucial during longer yoga sessions or when practicing poses that require more balance. The high-density foam feels comfortable and protects my joints well, even on hardwood floors. The grip is impressive too – I feel confident that I won't slip during my practice, even when I'm sweating. The durability of the mat is also worth noting. It has held up well to regular use and shows no signs of wearing out or tearing. The closed-cell construction seems to resist moisture, which is a plus since I tend to sweat a lot during my practice. However, my one minor concern is the thickness. While the 1/4" thickness provides excellent cushioning, it also makes the mat slightly bulkier when rolled up for storage. This can be a bit inconvenient if you're traveling or carrying it around frequently. It's not a dealbreaker, but it's something to keep in mind. In summary, the YogaAccessories 1/4" Thick High-Density yoga mat is a reliable choice for anyone looking for extra cushioning and support during their practice. It offers great grip, durability, and comfort, which are essential for a satisfying yoga session. The only reason I'm not giving it a full five stars is due to the slight thickness concern affecting portability. Otherwise, it's a fantastic yoga mat that I would definitely recommend to fellow practitioners. Read more
I was having issues with my wrists during downward dog and plank poses which I figured was just par for the course. After becoming more serious with my yoga practice I found I was also experiencing pretty significant discomfort with certain back poses as well (like plow). Finally, not wanting to reduce the frequency or intensity of my class schedule, I decided to see if moving up from my 1/8" Giam mat to something thicker would help. What I ended up finding is that this seemingly minor increase in thickness ended up not only helping my back, but also eliminated all wrist joint pain. Pleased with the support, I also found the "stickiness" factor of this mat to be pretty good. Like all mats I've ever used, however, it tends to get a little slip-n-slidey halfway into a particularly strenuous workout. To eliminate that you need a towel. All in all, I've been happy with the mat performance and durability. Highly recommended. (p.s. note that you'll need to keep the larger size of this mat when rolled up in mind -- it won't fit all standard bags/carrying cases) Read more
