They're a nice set of dumbbells. They have like a rubber coating on the on the heavy part. So when you drop them on the floor it doesn't crack your floor. I think it's just a rubber coating though I could be wrong. It could be solid rubber, some kind of heavy rubber. Whatever it is. It's nice and sturdy. They're just what I needed. You know to to be able to get some movement back into my arms. I sit still too much and I need to exercise my movement of my back and my arms cuz sitting still and working on your phone all day is not good for you so I thought I'd exercise a little bit. These weights have a nice feel to them with a slightly rounded grip with a not too rough texture through the center. They feel solid and balanced in the hand and great to work out with. They arrived with a kind of greasy film over the entirety but mainly on the rubber ends with a very strong scent. I washed them both with soap and water and the greasiness is better but the scent is still lingering. After working out I notice the scent on my hands as well. It does seem to be fading but it has been a few weeks now and I still notice when passing by my weight rack. Read more

This is a pretty standard style for hand weights. I've been piecing together a collect of dumbbells and needed a set of 5 pounders to complete my set. These match perfectly to what I already have. The only thing I will mention on these is that they do have an initial odor to them - but this has been true for any rubber-based weights that I've bought. It dissipated after a day or two and I no longer notice it. But if you are sensitive to smells, please keep this in mind.
