I'm going to come right out and say that when it comes to recorders, I am a dilettante. I have played them off and on for many years, but they have never been my primary sort of instrument and I mostly dabble with them because they are fun, easy to carry, and challenging for me. This recorder is not an heirloom instrument by any measure. It's plastic, and not very pretty. But it is miles above the recorders generally given to kids. It is possible to play in tune, and while it may fight you a bit to access the correct register at times it will in fact land on the correct register consistently if you do your part. Again, keep in mind that I am not by any stretch a professional recorder player but I have played a few including wooden recorders that cost a lot more. It comes with a nice fitted zipper bag. In fact, that's basically how it was shipped - inside Amazon's box was a zipper bag with a label taped to the outside. It also includes a cleaning rod and small tub of grease to help seal the segments together. The unions have plastic caps to prevent grease getting everywhere. There was also a small fingering chart. So, if we break the world of recorders down into torture devices given to schoolchildren, instruments for people who want to learn to play the recorder, and recorders for playing in concert, this is definitely in the middle category. I thought this looked like a pretty good recorder when I saw the listing so I decided to order it. When it arrived it looked even better in person than it did in the listing images. This is a well made recorder , not a flimsy, thin plastic instrument like others I have tried. In fact one of the reasons I was looking for one was because one of my cheap recorders got cracked and won't stay together any more. I think it would take some serious abuse to crack this zaza recorder. Not only is it large and heavy but it's well made also. Admittedly, most of the recorders I've seen in my life are the ones that are handed to rabid throngs of grade school students, so I'm not any sort of recorder aficionado. That being said, this feels a lot more like a real musical instrument that might be able to make something that sounds like music in the right hands. For me, it's mostly still not a pleasant sound, but the quality of this recorder makes me interested in learning more to see if I can get it to the point where it is a beautiful sound instead of just giving it a total pass like I have with cheaper recorders. I got the soprano recorder because I remember growing up and learning how to play it in school when I was little. I still remember how to play and am looking forward to playing it again! I doubt I will ever reach a professional level since I'm just playing for fun and for nostalgia, but they sound decent and seem very well made - sturdy plastic and comes with the accessories as well. I'd recommend this for a novice like me since it's a good value item. Read more

I'm not an experienced recorder player but I am an experienced musician. I felt like the tone was great, some intonation issues on a couple of notes but overall a nice variety from the soprano recorder. The grease and instructions along with the case make it feel like a good first slightly more serious alto recorder kit. Includes cleaning rod as well. Read more
