I love, love, love this kit. I haven't had any problems with them. If I might suggest is start out with a few light taps just enough to set the grommet. Then stop, take a look at it being sure it is set correctly. Reinstall the hardware and tap again alittle more forceful but not too hard. Tap about 4 times. This has worked for me perfectly. So I'm writing this with the intent of having using these on sketchbooks, so slightly thick cardboard instead of let's say fabric, which would be much easier to use than..what I am doing. Unless you have a hammer and something thick underneath you're going to have a hard time punching a hole through, but it's not impossible. As for the installation of the grommets themselves, super easy to use, just use a hammer to really secure them into place and you shouldn't have any issues with them coming loose. Read more

I used to use grommet pliers. No more. You have a hammer in your hand to punch a hole in your fabric? Why not just use it to hammer a grommet with this very easy to use kit? The hole punch has a nice open channel on the side that ejects plugs as you hammer away. Insert the strike plate spindle through the hole, set the grommet on the strike plate and washer over the spindle. The post that you use to strike feels nicely weighted and is pretty fool proof and the grommets set tight and snuggly. The set includes grommets in five finishes that will match most needs. The set was nice in that it had a very functional case with assorted grommet colors and all the tools but a small hammer. The case really does make this easier except for the finish rings all falling to the bottom. Including a nice punch to make clean holes for the grommets was great too. Problem is that when crimping the ring onto the base grommet it is tricky to get a pretty finish. I have used grommets for decades but these are the first where the finishing tool tends to deform the ring rather than just crimp it on. They do work and they do seem to stay on, but I had trouble getting a consistent good looking grommet as the rings just seem to light a material. Read more

This looked like a good deal at first because of the different colors of the metal furniture that comes in this set. However, when I used the tool to install them, half of the rings would bend terribly, no matter how carefully I would align and hit the tool. It makes the result look cheap, and the distorted rings get sharp edges that scratch the cord when I get it through the holes. I was able to smooth out the sharp edges with a screwdriver just enough to get the cord through, but it's an unnecessary hassle that could be avoided if only this set was of better quality. I'm now also in doubt about how reliable these will be as time goes on since the back of the ring is so distorted. Read more
