If youβve ever wanted to learn how to make soap, this book is for you. In this book, the author covers everything you need to know about making soap. She starts with a brief history of soap making, then moves on to the soap making process, including the importance of lye in the process, oils you can use, tools you need, and things that can go wrong when youβre making soap. Then she provides tips for making soap with children, soap recipes that are appropriate for all seasons, and tips for making money making soap. Finally, she ends the book with a conclusion summarizing everything she discusses. Overall this book is written very well. It provides some information on history, but the author spends most of the book talking about the process of making soap and the different choices you have for each ingredient. She also provides a brief but thorough explanation of how to turn your soap making hobby into a business, so this book is appropriate for those who want to take up soap-making as a hobby and those who are considering soap-making as a business. If youβve considered getting into soapmaking, either as a hobby or a business, this book is definitely worth checking out. It provides a detailed explanation of the ingredients needed, how to make it, and how to start a soap-making business if you choose to. Read more

I am no stranger to soap making, and in particular, using Kindle books on the topic. I own several. This e-book caught my eye, as it touts having 101 recipes, including some liquid and goat milk soaps. The author, Mary Ann Shelton, introduced herself as the holder of a chemistry degree, and then proceeded to cover a bit of soapmaking history. Some basic directions followed. That section did not feature step-by-step photos with the text. But I was not really in need of that information. It's obvious that the recipes themselves are the stars of this book. Before those recipes, chapters on tools and equipment, tips, and soap making with children are included. The author's writing style is straightforward and to the point, and the formatting helped my understanding of the material. She also injected jokes here and there, some of which were lost on me. What I really appreciated was the breadth of the recipes. Many recipes contained healthy, non-synthetic ingredients. Shaving soaps, body washes, and medicated and laundry soaps were all included. Fun ingredients like bacon, coffee, beer, and chocolate also made appearances. While the last chapter contained a quick rundown of soap business start-up costs, it was not really comprehensive. But, again, the interesting recipes are definitely worth the cost of downloading this book! Read more

I feel like everyone is getting into side hustles these days and coincidentally, I thought about learning to make soap. I'm someone who's big on skincare and aromatherapy. I've recently started using a combination of natural remedies to treat blemishes etc. and have found that they worked wonders, so I figured maybe they could help someone else. I couldn't have came across a more appropriate book than Mary Ann's 101 Unique Soap Recipes Cookbook. I love how it broke down the process and gave a brief history of soap making to create an appreciation for it as an art and how much it has evolved over the years. This book is geared toward beginners and is filled with pertinent information as it relates to the craft and technology required to aid it along. As for the actual recipes themselves, the author provided a list of ingredients and indicated which of the soap making processes detailed earlier in the book is most appropriate to use. Some of the more complicated recipes have directions to guide you along the process. I appreciated the recipes and ideas for ingredients that I might incorporate into new recipes. All in all, very informative and will be a useful guide going forward. Read more

I was initially skeptical about reading a book of such nature, but boy was I ever impressed. The author covered all content in words and descriptions that most people will be able to comprehend. The history was fascinating as was the process of soapmaking. The author even went into detail about how to get youngsters involved, emphasizing the need for enhanced safety protocols. The best part about the book was the soap recipes, there is one for everyone, including soaps you can make for your furbabies. This is a book I recommend to all. Read more

This is mainly a recipe book. Which is what I wanted.she has many recipes that require minimal ingredients. However it is written by a chemist, so she explains alot of the technical stuff, which is great. Only real con, she doesn't say how much soap you will have, pounds of completed product. She also doesn't tell you in every recipe how much EO to use if you want to add Read more

Very informative, not just recipes. There are several recipes included in this cookbook ranging from basic liquid hand soaps to soaps made out of fruit to the soaps that you might find at a high-end salon, with many more that I've never even heard of. The first 50ish pages covers the how-to process and there's a large section that discusses which oils will serve what purpose for making your soap. You'll find out what tools you'll need and even get some insight into the "trial and error" of others so that you don't make those same first-time mistakes. Very easy to follow and filled with great tips on how to start your own soap making business or just do on the side as a hobby! Read more
