The Innoasis G5 is a well-built little powerhouse of a device that’s more than just a music player. Previously, I was using their G3, but I upgraded to the G5 due to its Bluetooth 5.0, which makes a noticeable difference, especially when listening to high-res FLAC files. Plus it has a headphone jack if you’re REALLY into high-res music. Not that I could tell the difference when I plugged one in. Its solid Wi-Fi makes it versatile. I also use it to listen to audiobooks and streaming music through some rather obscure services like Presto that requires a good internet connection. Now for some caveats. First the SD card. You can set it up as portable or internal storage. The latter eliminates file management headaches of where to put large and numerous music files. If only it were that easy. The setup is not seamless. If you choose to make it internal storage, it will format that little sliver of memory. But you also need to take the additional step of going into Settings > Storage and select SD card from a drop-down menu. And THEN find Data Migration from one of those three dots menus on the other side of the screen. Choose to do that and all will be well. Fail to do it and the unit will fail to use the SD card along with confusing some of your apps. It will boggle the mind of the music player Neutron. That will be a change. Normally Neutron boggles my mind, but I digress. This is not the fault of the device. Rather it’s Android trying to help you and doing an annoying job of it. Getting past Android and its infuriating setup screens is another matter. As is a list of apps like Digital Well Being and others that you cannot remove. Whereas the G3 blocked certain PITA apps like Google Play, this version assaults you with them. But that’s a peeve of mine. Most folks want to have that. The G5 is the perfect size if you want a music/audiobook/podcast player that slips easily into a shirt or pants pocket, even those tiny pockets on workout tee shirts or sweatpants. Yet slipping is a bit of a problem. The back of the G5 is so slick that mine slid off a table due to part of it resting on something the thickness of a single paper towel. Thus I advise putting cloth tape on the back of the unit. Finally, customer service. Innoasis customer support is OUTSTANDING! I am clueless when it comes to portable electronic devices. Yet with both the G3 and now the G5, I received fast and thorough responses to my pleas for aid. These are personally written responses, not robos, not automated promises to get back to me sometime this year, and not Neutron’s Dmitry who is very helpful while making me feel like an idiot. That’s fair. I simply don’t care for the reminder. But I digress. I highly recommend the G5 to anyone who wants to listen to high-quality music and audiobooks without the possibility of being interrupted by telephone calls or text messages. The unit is powerful. This MP3 player is displayed to look like a phone, but it is actually very, very, very small! It also does not have a camera, so if you want to use this to call people, it won't work well. This is also hard to set up. It tells you to connect a phone to it to "transfer apps" to the mp3 player, which in my case, I dont think it necessary. Overall, solid build quality. Sound quality is fine on wired headphones. The wired headphones are required as an antenna for the FM radio function. Within 24 hours of posting the initial 3-star review, Innioasis reached out to me to help rectify my Bluetooth problems. Their suggestions were timely and appropriate for addressing the Bluetooth problems that Iwas having. When nothing worked to fix the problem, they offered to refund or send a new player. The new player shipped really fast and I got it this afternoon, 1-2 days before they said that it would arrive. Their customer service team is awesome. The new player works just fine. The audio quality over Bluetooth is good for me, with open ear headphones. Note that your results will depend on the quality of the Bluetooth headset that you are using. All of my music plays back just fine and my collection is a mix of mp3, AAC, flax and m4a audio files and all loaded on the SDcard. As mentioned above, the wired headphones are required for listening to FM radio. The software-based tuner is OK, but you need to know the frequencies of the stations that you want to listen to. The 3 stars went to 5 stars based on performance of the new replacement player, the build quality, and the excellent response from the Innioasis customer support. It is a nice little MP3 player. It is basically a phone without the phone. That is OK. I have used old phones as MP3 players. It connected via WIFI. It started updating and the GOOGLE sign in went reasonably well. The only problem I had is the font and typing. It is a small device and I am old. And I have Flintstone fingers apparently. Reading and typing was a hassle. But after an hour it was set up. I had downloaded a couple of apps and deleted a few unwanted apps. It is working great. Paired to ear buds. SD card was formatted. It is doing what I wanted it to do. I would recommend a sharp point stylus and a good magnifying glass if you are over 35. Read more

My 10 year old daughter got this device for Christmas. After 1 month, the battery swelled so much that the back of the device opened up. The device now shuts down after being on for about 30 seconds. We are 6 days past the return windows and she is devastated. Read more
