Worked on my 2014 Corolla, but wire is different
I used this to repair the broken horn wire on my 2014 Corolla. These wires are very easy to break since they are super thin (like 18 gauge copper wire) and are pretty short/tight. Mine broke off inside the connector so was not really repairable in a reliable fashion. So I ordered this very inexpensive replacement (currently under $6). The connector fits perfectly and snugly in its female counterpart at the horn. The attached wire is well-attached and plenty long. It is, however, not copper (stranded aluminum or steel of some sort) and considerably thicker than the 18 gauge copper on the OEM. The thicker wire (I think it was like 12-14 gauge, can't recall) is helpful in terms of strength, but also likely necessary for amperage (7.5 amp circuit) since it is stranded aluminum rather than stranded copper. In the end, for a simple one-wire horn circuit, it fits my needs perfectly. Rather than soldering in place with a soldering iron, I used a self-soldering marine butt connector that both solders the wires together and also heat shrinks around the wires for water resistance and additional connection strength. I then put yet another heat shrink tube on the outside. Due to the substantially different diameters of the original copper wire and the new pigtail wire, I was a bit concerned about whether the heat shrink would shrink sufficiently on the small copper wire, but it did -- whew. Connection seems strong with a moderate tug test. In other auto electrical use cases I would be hesitant to use an aftermarket part with different wire than the original I am splicing it to (aluminum/steel vs copper), since I am not sure if there can be some type of metalic reaction there (I know you cannot mix copper and aluminum wiring in housing electrical). In the case of a horn circuit that is rarely passing voltage, I am less concerned. And the horn works perfectly. If it fails or corrodes at the connection, I will replace with a copper wire next time. Read more
