I actually bought two different 750 GB external Hard Drives (HDD). The HWAYO HDD is mounted in a brushed aluminum case. Both end pieces are plastic. HDD is different from an SSD (Solid State Drive) in that the HDD is a mechanical drive with spinning platter and a movable head. HDDs are not as rugged as SSD and they require more power (current). The HWAYO drive comes with a USB cable with a USB-A on the computer end and a USB Micro B on the drive end. This cable provides more power for the HDD This cable not only provides more power, it also increase the data transfer to drive if the computer has v 3.0 USB. An HDD will maintain the data for a longer period than SSD as long as it is not dropped, bumped, or josteled. An SSD drive basically charges and discharges internal solid state cells. The charge will last about a year or so if the SSD is left unpowered. For cloning and archiving, an HHD is better unplugged and stored away. An SSD should be powered every so often. The HWAYO came in a box for 2.5" External case. The HDD is a Samsung drive. If you buy this exteranl HDD you may or may not get a Samsung HDD. I am guessing they buy a batch of 2.5" drives at the best price so it could be any brand. I ran a HDD test and it came back with perfect status. Problem and/or weak sectors not found. No spin up nor data transfer errors. Internal temp was 31 degrees C. The S.M.A.R.T. came back passing all tests. The second drive I will label as "B". In my review of the "B" drive, I will label the HWAYO HDD as the "A" drive. The "B" drive had a current temp of 20 degrees C. The "B" drive passed all tests and the S.M.A.R.T. tests as well. Either drive will do a good job. Read more

works great when plugged into a roku tv to take advantage of antenna tv pause, rewind, and fast forward features. the smaller devices work too but dont last the 2 or 3 years that this type of device does. my old similar drive still worked most the time but was worn out. plugged the old one into an old old laptop that needed some extra storage. The HWAYO external hard drive arrived securely packaged in the box with the cord and instructions included. Setup was easy, allowing me to plug into my MacBook with quick device recognition. I used the Mac Time Machine feature to backup my computer ~300GB in approximately 30 minutes with no complications. Overall my thoughts are the following: Pros: - Easy, user friendly setup - Cost effective, low price for large storage capacity - Fast Cons: - User instructions seemed unnecessary. My computer was able to backup without following the instructions Overall would recommend as a cost effective computer backup option. Read more

I ordered this the other day and it's working fine so far. Due to some of the other reviews I am concerned about this device's long-term viability, but so far I can say that it's easy to use and much faster transferring files than other external drives I've had. It looks cheaper in person than it does in photos, it's got a real dollar store vibe, and while I didn't buy it for the bling it does make the device seem a little more sketchy. The cord supplied is quite short, which wasn't a problem for me but is worth noting. Read more

STAY AWAY FROM THIS CHEAP GARBAGE!!!!! It seems like a good deal until you try to use it and it brings your whole system down. Thought I might have gotten a bad build so I returned it and tried another one. It worked long enough to get passed the return window, then the same results. DO NOT BUY!!! Read more

I got the 120GB version. I tested the drive, and it is a legit 120GB drive, but the controller does not support SMART, which means you're very limited in what you can test and verify. I did use some free utilities to run an exhaustive and destructive repeat erase/read/write test on every block, and the drive passed with zero failures. I also noticed that the box it arrives in is for a hard drive enclosure, not a retail external hard drive. There's a sticker on the box to indicate the type of drive installed in the enclosure. This leads me to believe the drive is used, but I can't verify this without SMART support. I plan to use this drive for periodic off-site backups, so it should be fine for that purpose, but I would not trust this drive for primary data storage device. The lack of SMART support is suspicious and risky. Still, the price can't be beat. Read more
