you can see marsh grass stalks individually from about 1000 feet.l camera mount is difficult and more useful at lower mag. images and magnification are good, details on birds (herons egrets etc) across the river here, prob 400 yrds, sufficient to see fine details on the head of a male yellow crowned night heron. the tripod is useless. get a good one for camera, which has the same mounting screw. back part rotates so the eyepiece can be sideways if you wish. I spent a few days getting used to how the scope works in preparation for a trip to a wildlife refuge where the wildlife roam over several hundred acres while tourists watch from a distant catwalk. I learned several things while testing in my backyard. The cheap fabric case is only adequate for careful storage on a shelf or in the car because the scope sits loose inside. If I were carrying the scope on a long nature hike or hunting, I'd upgrade to a lightweight hardshell case or get some expansive foam to properly wrap the scope. I tossed the phone adapter aside. Digital cameras that fit on the eyepiece and send high-resolution photos to a cell phone are readily available, inexpensive, and vastly superior to any makeshift bracket. The tripod is good enough. The scope is too big to hold steady at the high magnification, so the tripod adds the required stability. I wish that the legs were longer - they do not even telescope. I took photos and video (with my own camera) through the eyepiece as an initial test. I chose the birdfeeder 100 feet away. Images are clear at 20x magnification, but I wish I could start with a wider angle 10x and then zoom in to make it easier to find the birdfeeder. Once I found it, I could focus and see individual bird seeds. At 60x, I saw a tiny bird rummaging until he found a dried worm with which he was happy enough to keep and fly away. I do not doubt that tiny, 22LR holes would be visible even at 100 yards with this scope. I read the license plate of a parked truck more than a half-mile away. With a proper eyepiece camera and some improvements to the case, this is an excellent spotting scope for distant target shooting or bird watching. Read more

This scope has all the basic features expected in a spotting scope. The lenses seem sharp. The focusing works well and is easy to finely adjust. The zoom is smooth. It has a built-in eye cup to help keep the lens clean and a retractable hood to help reduce sun flare. A table tripod is included which I find of minimal utility. Also a cell phone mount is included so you can easily take pictures with the scope. I'm part of the old-school which would always put a 1A or UV filter on any lens but unfortunately this scope doesn't have the threads to mount one. When zooming from low to high power, the focus needs to be readjusted. If you pay a lot more that little annoyance might disappear. In my mind, one almost always needs a real tripod for a spotting scope to be really useful. Even at 20 power it's hard to hand-hold the scope steady. Overall, my impressions of this spotting scope are positive. The green color is much more subdued than the images show which was a benefit to me. I will be throwing some rattle can on it later anyway but not having a shiny baby puke green base is a plus. I like that you can position the scope 90* left, right, or vertically depending on your application. The 20x magnification images are pretty good, focus is easily obtainable once you figure out the nuances. Today the weather is heavy cloud cover and rain, little to no sunshine and going much further than 40x the image is very dark. The 80mm objective should be large enough to gather plenty of light if the sun was out at all but that just wasn't the case today. The storage case is soft sided and has a strap for carry. The zipper opens the full length of the case and maybe only 3/4-1" down the sides. The scope must go in first with the way the divider is positioned. I do not like the carry case but you can get a hard sided Pelican style case pretty cheap to replace it. The included tripod is nothing fancy but useful for prone or sitting at a bench and using the scope, it is not height adjustable. It also fits in the carry case with little effort. For the price, I am happy with this product. Overall, I like the usefulness of the scope and tripod and look forward to using it. Read more
