My 4" pairing knife was very dull. I pulled it lightly through the sharpener and my knife was then sharp enough to easily slice paper. I could never get it that sharp before with a metal rats tail. Very pleased. Read more

I have a couple older knives with curved blades that are hard to sharpen due to the concave shape of the cutting surface. I tried with my sharpening stones but only managed to dull the edge. These were a game changer. The trick with these is to not use a lot of pressure. You just want to drag it gently along the edge of the blade and take several passes with it. If you use too much pressure you will end up chipping your edge off the knife you're sharpening. I have had this happen before so I knew what to expect and used light pressure on that curved bladed pairing knife and was elated to find that after about a dozen gentle strokes with this sharpener, I could successfully and easily cut things that this knife was previously unable to cut through. The two pack is great so I can keep one in the kitchen at the house and another in our RV kitchen. I think these are a good value and I'd recommend them to anyone who wants an easy way to sharpen their kitchen knives. Read more

This sharpener has a very sturdy handle with a built in guard perfect for quick but not very thorough sharpening. The black plastic handle feels secure and fits perfectly in the hand. The approx 45 degrees angled Stones are set at a perfect angle for sharpening. I am not sure about the sharpening surface itself as it is those knife like material set in the groove. When using there is a satisfying pull and the feel of nicks and imperfections in your blade being knocked down and smoothed out. After about thirty swipes of a moderately dull knife I had a moderately sharp knife. I would have expected a very sharp knife after this three minutes of sharpening. I wish the sharpening surface was the white round ceramic that I have used before which seems more effective. This is a black sharp and narrow surface and I believe it is already chipped. I also wish the handle could be held firm and square on the counter instead of in your hand. Good product we will use when butchering large carcasses for a quick touch up. But for great results you will need a more extensive honing stone. Read more

Con: This knife sharpener is dangerous to use. Other sharpeners have you place the knife blade-side-DOWN for safety, and slide downward to sharpen. I don’t think these designers considered safety much. You are supposed to hold the KNIFE UPwardom the counter, and with the sharpener onTOP, roll down on the blade.. there is sooo much room for an accident here. God forbid! I don’t feel comfortable using it in comparison to others. Also- because there’s very little control, you can damage your blade by stopping halfway and chipping it- which I did. But I fixed it. Pros: I mean, it gets the blade sharp. I didn’t think it was working- but later I was cutting on top of parchment with a dull knife that I sharpened with this. And it sliced right through the parchment! Read more

I have tried various knife-sharpening devices including the newer one with the rolling barrel, but when one of my knives suddenly turns up dull, I always reach for a device very similar to this one and can restore it quickly and effectively but is actually the simplest design and easiest to use. After years of use, I decided it was time to replace this old workhorse with another one of that type. This product is very similar and has the same type of guard to protect the knuckles while sharpening. To sharpen, I turn the knife sharp side up on the counter with the point facing me. Then I simply draw the sharpener down the blade from the handle to the point several times with very little pressure. I can hear the sharpening happening and after it is no longer providing a grating sound. I now have a sharp knife. Very simple, safe and affordable. They even give you 2 in the package. I'm very satisfied with this simple effective solution. Read more

Are these the *best* sharpeners I've ever used, no, I mean there's nothing like a good old fashioned stone and strop when you really want a perfect blade or want to take care of an heirloom knife -- but these are definitely the *easiest* sharpeners I've ever used, and they work well enough for my general needs. Threw one in my emergency cache toolkit, and keep the other in my kitchen now, and it's super simple now to give my kitchen knives and even my boxcutters a quick tune up whenever I think they need it. The grips are comfortable to hold, and they seem to be well-made enough to last a good long time. And you can't beat the price. Read more

This knife sharpener was very easy to use and comfortable to hold. I tried it on my stainless steel kitchen knives, and after about four passes through the sharpener, they were already much sharper than before. I hadn’t sharpened my knives since I first purchased them, so this was a great refresh for my whole knife set. It brought them back to a level that feels much safer and more effective for everyday cooking. I followed the recommended number of passes, but I can see how doubling the number of passes could make them even sharper if needed. Overall, this is a simple, effective tool that does exactly what it’s supposed to do. Great value and very convenient to have on hand. Read more

These knife sharpeners work well overall. The black material is plastic and very lightweight, making it comfortable to hold while using. The size is just right and should fit most hands easily. The style of the sharpener makes it easy to use- just slide the knife into the slot and make a few passes. The sharpeners function well and noticeably sharpen the knife blade. It is compact and easy to store. They seem durable and overall quality is good, although I do wish they were a bit heavier for added stability. Still, they are a good value for the money. Read more
