This rug is super soft. Not extremely thick, but nice still. Be careful because it can be slippery if you’re barefoot or in house slippers. There was no foul smell when opened. I’m going to be honest, I’ve had this rug now for over two months now and it’s held up really well. I have a small apartment with two cats who shed a lot, the rug is very easy to keep clean (I just used my dirt devil vacuum) and it’s kept is softness so far. When purchasing this rug i was afraid of it holding on to bad odors and leaving the room smelling bad, but I've had no such issues. It’s a great addition to any space and the extra padding on the bottom of the rug makes it easier to sit on the floor for longer periods of time.
