This is an important item to have in your car for emergencies. One thing that's guaranteed, if you own your car long enough, is that the car battery will fail. A common failure is for a cell off the battery to become shorted, which lowers the total battery voltage. The car won't start, and worse, the battery can't be charged to its working level again, so putting it on a battery charger will not help. First, it's important to understand the difference between a battery charger and a jump starter. A battery charge delivers current over a relatively long period of time, to refill a battery. A jump starter, in contrast, delivers a surge of power that starts the car. Once the car is running, the car's alternator will generate electricity as long as the engine is running. This is a jump starter. It's not suitable for charging your car battery, because even though this unit has a 20,000 mp battery, your car's battery is much larger still. But if your car battery has become faulty with age, it probably won't charge anyway. But with this unit you can start your car. First example: I had my previous car for many years, and one night it wouldn't start. I was in grocery store parking lot. Fortunately, I had a unit similar to this (but no integrated air compressor) in my trunk. I'd never used one before, but was able to start my car and drive home. The next day, I used it again to start my car and drive to the nearest AutoZone and buy a new car battery. Second example: I finally retired my old car two months ago and bought a new one. I drove it home from the dealer, a two-hour drive. I went out to dinner later, and when tried to start my car, it was no-go. Fortunately my car came with road-side assistance, and a truck came out. The man tested the battery to find it had a bad cell—on day one! He brought out a battery pack (basically like this, but it was a larger professional unit), and it started my car right up, and I drove home. It was a weekend, and it took a few days for the local car dealer to have a space for me to bring it end to replace the battery. In the meantime, I was able to start my car several times, to move it, to take my car for a drive, and finally to start it up and drive it to the dealer. I want to be clear that I was using a unit similar to this. This one has about one-third more power capacity, and has the tire inflator built in. I tested the inflator on an old basketball, but since I don't have problems starting my car at this time, I can't test its jump start ability. • The jump starter: The package comes with a pair of battery-clip cables, color coded the usual red and black for connection to your battery terminals. This unit is capable of start up to 8 liter gasoline engines. That requires a high-capacity jump starter battery. • The inflator: It has a high-capacity, 160 psi. There are four modes, for inflating truck tires, car tires, bicycle tires, and inflating things like basketballs that are a lower pressure. You can set the target inflation level, handy for inflating that basketball, for instance. • Charging the battery: USB- and USB-C charging ports. You'll want to use a high-capacity charger, the kind that lets you recharge a tablet computer quickly. 20,000 mAh (aka 20 Ah) is a lot of capacity—about twice that of my 12.9" iPad Pro. There is a readout of the percentage charge level. • Power bank: USB-A and USB-C ports supply power to recharge your phone or tablet. You could use this to keep your phone charged on a camping trip, for instance. • Flashlight: There's a flashlight at each end, which can come in handy if you're having jump-start or tire pressure issues on a dark road. • Important safety features: Jump starters must deliver high peak current for short amounts of time. Some units may omit safety features to keep the price down, but this one has "overcharge protection, over-discharge protection, over-current protection, short-circuit protection, low-voltage protection, high-temperature protection, low-temperature protection, and reverse polarity protection". • Full LED display: My old jump starter didn't have a readout, just a few status LEDs. This one shows battery level and status, as well as pressure for the inflator. The unit comes with a nice case and all the connectors you'll need, including a needle for a basketball and other nozzles. It's a compact package that you can keep in your trunk for emergencies. It's suggested to charge it every three months, though my experience is that these batteries hold enough charge to start a car for much longer than that, so you're probably safe even if the recharge schedule slips. I apologize for the length of this review. This is basically two reviews in one, since it’s a combo unit. TLDR version, yes, you should buy it. I feel it does both functions better than the dedicated units we have. We have multiple, portable air compressors and battery jumpers, but this is our first combo compressor and battery jumper. It’s a reasonable size for offering both a high capacity jump starter as well as an air compressor, and comes in a protective case that holds everything in the kit with room for extras. I started using this unit with tire inflation. First up was 26" x 4" fat tires. The inflator from 5psi to 20psi in 54 seconds. Actual pressure was about 21.5psi actual at 20psi set point. Next up was presta e-gravel tires. The inflator took these 28" x 2" tires from 5-45psi (44.5psi actual) in just 28 seconds. I used the included brass schrader to presta adapter on these gravel tubes, which worked perfectly. Nice to see they included a brass adaptor rather than plastic or aluminum. On these bike tires, the WOLLAR pump was about ½ to ⅔ the time of my previous fastest portable compressor. That’s very fast! The manual states that this pump is not suitable for use with truck or road bike tires, but I’d already tested with 19.5” truck tires before I noticed the warning. The inflator went from 95 to 102psi (103psi actual) in under 6 minutes. It’s a massive amount of air at high pressure, and I fully understand their warning. I did get to see both the E04 (time warning) and E05 (temperature shutdown) errors. Nice that the pump protects itself from damage. As always, the hose connector at the pump will be the hottest part of a portable air compressor. Internally, the temperature had risen above 140F during my truck tire test, but you could not feel that on the pump body. The hose connector was about 213F, like every portable pumping for nearly six minutes, and not something you want to touch (hence the CAUTION HOT sticker). These heat levels are a common result of compressing air, not a design issue. Noise measured a little over 96db at just under 1 foot, which is a pretty close measurement. While that is loud, it is not unusual for portable air compressors. It’s safest to keep a good distance away from tires when inflating anyway, especially when inflating higher pressure tires. I’m not a huge fan of the inflation hose/connector. This is entirely personal preference, and I am not knocking any points off the unit for that. The included lever closure connector will be familiar to most users and functions just fine. It has a standard M6 hose connection, so you can get any type & length you want. I’ve replaced all of ours with quick connect hoses, and one of these also worked fine with this unit as well. The lights are really interesting. You have a warning light on one side, and then more of a distance lens on the other. This light will do constant light, signal SOS, or flash. I’ve never seen another light on an air compressor offer SOS in Morse code. Finally, the presets are fantastic! These offer Car, Motorcycle, Bicycle, Ball, and then an unmarked Custom preset (3-150psi). All presets are PSI limited by the specific preset function, with typical ranges explained in the manual. This is much easier than adjusting pressure each time. Charging is relatively fast, with the unit pulling nearly 18watts at 12v via the USB-C port. Like other jumpers/compressors, the USB-C port is for charging the unit only. The USB-A port is rated at 5v 2.4a (12 watts), but I could not get more than half of that out of it, with 7 devices measured. This power output is typical for a standard USB-A port. For battery jumping, I used our 1999 International semi, which has a 7.6L DT466E engine. This nearly 1,800 lb engine(!) is notoriously slow to start in cold, which of course it was, at 39°F. This truck requires 3 group 31 batteries with 1,200 cranking amps each at 32°F. I had just one of the batteries installed with this jumper. That means the jumper is making up about 2,000 cranking amps of capacity. The truck had been sitting for a few weeks, but fired right up with the WOLLAR jumper working perfectly. The unit charge was still 100% after jumping as well. I have a jumper that claims to output nearly 3x the amps of this unit (8000a vs 3000a) and that one drops to 50-75% after jumping the same truck. Both have 20,000mAH/74WH reserves, but I think the WOLLAR manages power output better. There is very little not to like here. The battery clips could be a little bigger, but I like the audible notification in addition to the status lights. The USB output could be higher, but it’s plenty to keep a phone running for a VERY long time. Also I like that the jumper port is on TOP! Yes, thank you, WOLLAR! Every other company keeps putting jump ports on the ends/sides, and it is annoying. Read more
This thing is a brick. Just the battery unit weighs 4.4 lb. Granted, this includes a hefty battery and an air pump. It also includes a flashlight and an emergency light beacon that will both just flash or signal SOS in Morse Code. It comes with the terminals to connect to a battery, the air hose, a USB-A to USB-C cable, as well as a proper instruction manual in multiple languages. And of course, it comes with a case. Being that it is a fairly big battery, it does take 4 to 5 hours to charge from zero power (the unit arrived completely discharged). The air pump is pretty powerful and can be set for cars/trucks, motorcycle, bicycle and sports equipment. The flashlight, not so much but it does provide illumination. The emergency light is a nice feature, obviously in case of emergency assuming someone can see you or in your direction at night. Not sure how it would do during the day. I’ve used these types of starters before and they an be used multiple times before running out of juice. I would imagine this one will last a long time before recharging since it’s so big. For me, this will be perfect in my Class B van conversion RV. I’ve got the storage space and when you need it out in the middle of nowhere, you have it. This is one of those tools that you hope you never need but are glad to have when you do. It feels sturdy and well built,! The air compressor is a great added feature. It is compact enough to store in a car without taking up much space. Having both functions in one unit makes it especially practical for emergencies and regular maintenance.
