For the price, I was expecting a dedicated media player, like the WD Live. My media content is exclusively via LAN connected NAS storage. I cannot speak to using this with USB attached local storage. What I got was a (Android based?) terribly slow mini-PC (micro-controller?), with Android apps installed. The two media player apps are VLC and Kodi. Neither work correctly, and when trying to play a movie, there's no AC3 pass-through, and crashes the "player" all the time. Any media formats that this "media player" plays are a function of the app, not the player itself. The implementation of networking with Kodi just doesn't work. The first thing I noticed was the size of this media player which is a bit bigger than others I have used (The remote that it comes with is 5 1/2 inches for reference), however it is light weight. The specs say it can play up to 8TB hard drive but it plays my 20TB Western Digital just fine which is really nice not having to transfer files to smaller hard drives. The remote strength is pretty good as long as you have the blue light on the device facing you, otherwise if you plan on vertically mounting to a wall the remote strength can be a little intermittent.
