This 8BitDo Retro R8 mouse immediately caught my attention with its nostalgic design, perfectly matching my retro-themed keyboard, yet it delivers modern performance with its PAW 3395 optical sensor and Kailh Sword GM-X micro switches. The sensor responded smoothly and accurately whether I was browsing or flipping through documents, while the switches provided a satisfying tactile click that feels premium and precise. Switching between 2.4 GHz, Bluetooth, and wired USB-C modes was seamless, giving me flexibility to connect to my desktop, laptop, or gaming console as needed. The included charging dock not only keeps the mouse powered—from its rechargeable battery—but also acts as a stable base when idle, minimizing desktop clutter. Ergonomically, it feels lightweight and well-balanced, ideal for daily use, though it may require a bit of adjustment if you’re used to weighted gaming mice. Overall, this mouse blends form and function brilliantly: it performs just as well as it looks, making it a standout pick for anyone looking to elevate their workspace aesthetics without sacrificing performance. I'm a fan of the retro look that 8Bitdo goes for a lot and this mouse is no exception. It's cool that they also matched the dock to the same look. It's very easy to charge the mouse on the dock so the looks aren't the only thing nice about the dock. As for actual use, don't let the retro look fool you - it's responsive, comfortable, lightweight but not cheap feeling. The software that's used is minimalistic is features but it does what you need it to do. There's no RGB or lighting at all on the mouse so it can be hard to see in a darker environment if you set it down. But that's not an issue typically for me. It's been dropped a few times since purchase and it's never shown any wear or damage. There are 2 programmable buttons on each side that I haven't really used for anything as of yet and thankfully they do not get in the way of typical use either. It's nice to have something in this price range that includes all the features you'd expect and then some. Read more

I bought this mouse for casual desktop use, but I was pleased to find that it's great for PC gaming, too. This mouse uses the PAW 3395 sensor, which is found in many cheap gaming mice. It has great tracking, and 8BitDo's software allows a great deal of customizability. It's great for casual FPS games (eg: 7 Days to Die, ARK: Survival Ascended, etc.). You have to swipe the mouse really fast to make it skip (I use a 1,000Hz polling rate, 400DPI, and 2mm lift-off distance). However, because the mouse can still skip if you swipe it really fast, I'd be wary of relying on it for competitive gameplay like Counter-Strike. The included charging stand is incredibly convenient, and thank goodness for USB Type C charging. My previous mouse was a SteelSeries Rival 650 wireless mouse, and it was annoying to need a Micro-USB cable to charge it, as well as it being inconvenient to use and charge at the same time (you can't configure the Rival 650 to not sleep when plugged in). The 8BitDo R8 has none of these problems. This is a lightweight, well-built mouse that offers great value for the money. I'd trust it for all but the most extreme use cases. Its convenience, pricing, and performance make it a great mouse overall. Read more

The only mouse you'll ever need. The weight of the charge dock is portioned perfect so that you can lift the mouse off without lifting the charge dock. The mouse is held on by magnetics and the 2.4ghz dongle plugs into the dock also for a short wireless signal distance. 500mah battery so it won't go dead on you while not in use. The thing goes up to 8000hz polling which is just insane. Looks NES themed and I adore this. Very light weight mouse and super comfortable. Has 4 side buttons, 2 on each side, easy to press and positioned so I don't accidently press them. The wheel feels great with a button below it to change DPI on the fly. Goes perfect with my Retro NES style keyboard. Grab both and you'll be happy. Read more

I use this in 2G wireless mode with the adapter it includes 'cuz my computer's on-board bluetooth is butts (that's Intel's fault, not 8bitdo's) It's perfectly responsive and the connection's flawless. It takes a little fiddling with the software to raise the DPI and get it where you want it, but that's a simple enough process as 8bitdo's support section of their website has always been easy to navigate and their software's as intuitive as their hardware. As always, I love 8bitdo's commitment to quality, retro aesthetics and fair prices. The only nitpick I have is that it's easy for me to accidentally hit the back button when I'm using it, but it really is a nitpick. Read more

Love the mouse, it matches my 8bitdo Retro NES keyboard. As per usual with 8bitdo, everything is very high quality, feels great to unbox and works seamlessly. The mouse is a great size and all the buttons and scroll wheel feel great to use. It isn't really a complaint, but the mouse is pretty light. I think some people prefer that, but it took me some getting used to. The base looks sweet and has a great weight to it, such that I can take the mouse on and off of it with ease. I haven't played around with the software, but just use my mouse and keyboard for generic every day use on my apple Mac mini. Very happy with my purchase! Read more

I love the look of this mouse, but it's not exactly comfortable for long sessions. I have kind of wide hands and it requires just a little too much cupping to be comfortable for gaming. It might be more comfortable for narrower hands. But being able have it connected to three devices at once and switch between them is pretty great. It's serving me well on my daily use PC that I mostly have on in the background while working. Read more
