If you buy a Phinistec media player, it should be this one. I've tried out two or three others before this one and they all had one major flaw: the audio quality was bad. It always sounded weak and grainy. I am super relieved to say that that is not the case with this Mecha player. I was able to tell a small difference between my nicer dongle DACs and the onboard audio from this player, but the difference was small. Also, I tried and confirmed that my USB dongle DACs worked with this player with no problem, so that's a fortunate option. The reason I say audiophiles should look elsewhere is because if you're buying this you probably don't want to have to use it with a dongle dac for convenience reasons. Thus, "pretty good but not to the level of my normal dacs" probably isn't enough for you. Also, the output of the internal DAC is locked to 48kHz and 32 bit, meaning unless your music has that very specific and unusual combination, this player will always be resampling and converting the audio. Many people don't care about that but audiophiles usually do. If you're not an audiophile, read on. For the most part this can be thought of as an android phone without a sim card, camera or gps. It operates almost exactly the same as my Google Pixel 9a, with a few small differences due to the theme and android version, but it should feel totally natural to anyone that's used an android phone before. The great thing here is that it allows you to sign in with your google account and download apps. In particular, I downloaded USB Audio Player Pro and Poweramp. Both are among the best audio player apps for android. One thing about the theme to note (the theme being the icons for the pre-installed apps looking like the "mech" theme of the phone) is that if you install additional apps, their icons will be their regular icons instead of the mech-theme icons. As for the device itself, the UI is snappy, the screen looks nice, the frame is metal and sturdy and the battery lasts a good amount of time. I wouldn't recommend playing demanding android games on here (not that I've tried), but as a media player it should be more than sufficient. One major bonus this player has over most android devices is the SD card slot (and the 3.5mm jack, of course). It comes with a 64GB micro sd card which I was able to put about 40 gigs of music onto without a problem. They claim to support sizes up to 1TB. One other thing. I thought the device looked cool in the pictures but on the back side of it those designs are pieces of plastic. They're a bit thick so they add to the thickness of the device, and in person they look pretty cheap. I'm not a fan of that. Otherwise, this is a very nice android-based media player. Read more
We are used to Listings that over-state what a product is, looks like, can do....well this Phinitec/Mecha (Not just Mp3) Player...bucks that trend with some pretty big "Buckin". First off, it runs Google/Android, including the Play Store! so, I immediately downloaded my staples like Duck Duck, VLC, Firefox, Chat GPT, BOSS Guitar Tuner, Ultimate Guitar...etc... All of these work just like they do on my phone. Actually - That's A LIE - They work better! - Maybe because the screen is smaller, so the refresh requires less? I don't know...but this is a SNAPPY device. I was watching movies I loaded onto the device on VLC - and they played as smoothly as they do on my iPad or Desktop. Actually, I should mention the speed of the transfer - I was going to bring over one full album to test the sound quality - but then I went into a deep-dive of genres I should try and ended up selecting 40 albums or 3+GB worth of mp4s and mp3s. I dropped them in the Music folder on the device (USB-C to A on Hub) and the files transferred in less than 1.5 minutes! Crazy... Not crazy for a computer...but most small electronics / music players are SO slow - This Phinistec/ Mecha Player is blazin. So, it's now not only my in-the-pocket go to Guitar Tuner, my Digital Alarm Clock Appdevice, it is even my quick access FM. The unit shipped with Kindle, ebook and Libby loaded... so, while I will likely continue to use my iPad for those... it's great to know that if I can't access my pad sitting in the constricted middle seat on the plane - I can always pull the player out of the smallest pocket on my bag or person. Two last things - It IS a music player - so, what does it sound like? it sounds AMAZING! - like seriously - The Mids and Highs are super present and the Bass is Boomin, but Balanced! The player it shipped with sounded ...And music sounded just as great using Apps like Poweramp, and VLC. And since streaming on WiFi was seamless and super fast - Videos I watched on Youtube, or on VLC were clean, glitch-free, and sounded Full, Clear, Loud, and Fantastic. Lastly - the look and feel of the player are cool - kind of an 80's Nintendo kinda look / colour scheme to the player with 8 sides - even the audio jack is a polished copper-bronze colour - Really Nice. Keep in mind - it's not a $100-200 phone or tablet - yeah, it's smaller (See picture against a dollar) - but it works better, faster than a lot of Devices I have used for a hundred $ more than the $66+ pricetag on this. This audio player is built like a tank! The beautiful metal outer frame, nice flat glass screen, and stylish backside make this device feel like a premium product. This audio player comes with 32 gb of internal storage and a removable 64gb microSD card. I deleted two apps before checking but there is around 11gb of memory being taken up by the stock apps. The Mecha F9 comes with two apps that can play your local media files the HiByMusic app and the KMPlayer app. The HiByMusic app is so perfect in my eyes and was the deciding factor that made me decide to carry this over my Z6 audio player. You can output bit-perfect audio signals through the USB port but that setting needs to be enabled in the HiByMusic app. The HiBy app has a 10 band equalizer, custom playlist maker and importer using M3U file, and a bunch of other nerdy features that are too fancy for me. Before upgrading to this audio player I had been using the Phinistec Z6 for 10 plus hours a day for months at this point. The shortcomings I had learned to live with using the Z6 have all been washed away by the F9. (The Z6 is great btw). The F9 comes with a type-c charging cable and a cheap but decent set of headphones. The 2000mah battery definitely adds to this devices weight but I think it is definitely worth it! I had turn to on the dark theme in the system settings and in each app because the light theme is turned on by default. Overall this is a great audio player and would totally recommend this!
