As background, I live on the hot, humid Gulf Coast where it rarely freezes. Seems like four years out of ten, I've lost power, either to a hurricane or a rare hard winter freeze. It normally lasts a couple of days, but it can stretch for more than a week depending on the tree damage and how fast the crews can get to my neighborhood. Accordingly, I am always on the lookout for good emergency supplies. So I was interested to learn about this Aaoyun unit from Doc at Last Best Tool on Youtube. Google "Last Best Tool Aaoyun" if you want to watch his review. For comparison, I would say the Anker Solix C300 DC at 288 watt-hours with a built-in pop up light is the biggest competitor. That one has 4 USB-C plugs but no AC plug (the more expensive regular C300 has several AC plugs). The Aaoyun has one traditional AC outlet and better lighting options than either the C300 DC or the C300. Upon receipt, I charged the unit up fully, played with the lights a little bit (they work fine), and then started counting how many times I could fast charge (USB-C to USB-C) my phone. Over the course of a couple of weeks, I got 18 full, fast charges. My average starting battery level was 15%. Note, there is only one USB-C port. If you want another USB-C charging option, plug a Syncwire 60W car charger in the 12V/10A car port on the lower right corner of the unit. From drained and dead, it took me about 6 hours to fully recharge the power bank using USB-C to USB-C (the box says 6.5 hours). I'm not sure of the rating of the wall outlet I used. For power outages, I would recommend an 80-120W solar panel (e.g., Sunjack 120W) or a high-speed car "lighter" charger such as the UGreen 130W car charger. In a power outage where you need to recharge your phone, use the built-in lights at night and maybe run a fan on low while you sleep, this unit should last one person five to seven days (due to the higher % of light/fan drain vs. phone drain) and a family of four about two days (with a lower % of light/fan drain vs phone drain). If you run larger appliances or charge laptops or iPads, that's going to cut down those estimates. I paid $155 on sale for 296 watt-hours. That's right around the 50 cents per watt-hour benchmark I look for. The list price of $200 is 67 cents per watt-hour. IMO, that's a little steep compared to the competition, so wait for a sale. All in all, I think this unit will "pay for itself" after one power outage. I like it. Frankly, I'd want one all to myself in the next power outage, so I may buy another one if the price is right. So this is going in my emergency power outage kit, along with a couple of Sofirn LT1S lanterns (that double as power banks), a couple of Sofirn IF23 flashlights (that double as power banks), a couple of headlamps for hands-free lighting, and a couple of walkie-talkies. It's simply hard to beat the convenience of a good lighting source that also can charge your phone! Read more
This little unit does a lot of things well. Spotlight is super bright. Gotta admit the pop-up lantern is a bit hokie, but it does provide a nice amount of light to light an entire area. I figure it will be great on camping trips. Hopefully the rubber of the pop-up ages well. Great charger. Read more
Not sure of the uses I will have for this, but we will see when the time comes. I can tell you this, while it is not a heavy item in weight, it definitely feels heavy. The lights work well. I am concerned about the material used for the rising light. The handle is strong. The shoulder strap is a shoulder strap. I bought this mostly because of its shape. It will fit neatly into anything you might want to put it in. Just be careful of the rising light. In case you are wondering, the packaging is perfect. Neat, tight and secure, and it includes a 65w wall charger. At this price, speculate to accumulate. It can't hurt to have. Read more
It took me a moment to figure out some of the nuances of use, but once I got used to its operation, I’m so grateful to have this battery source. Read more
This product was very disappointing. Once used, it’s nearly impossible to recharge without a regular wall outlet, which makes it impractical for camping. If you rely on a CPAP, it’s essentially a one-time use device. To make matters worse, the box gave out after just two uses. I bought this specifically to power my CPAP while camping, but I only got one night out of it before it became useless. Very frustrating. Read more
I like that it has both a handle and carry strap. The built in light is convenient, one less thing to plug in. The Flash light is bright and combined with the carry handle make it easy to use. There are enough outlets for a variety of devices. Read more
