I am glad I took a chance and ignored some of the negatives in the reviews. I searched extensively for a lamp that had a definite mid century modern vibe and would work on a side table. I am very happy with this choice. The lamp was well packaged during shipping and arrived fully assembled. It is very reminiscent of cone shaped lamps from that era. The supporting tubes and shades are made of metal. The shades and base are black, again reminiscent of mid century style. The small ends of the shades are made of plastic, but they look and feel like wood. You have to inspect them very closely to note that they are not wood. The entire lamp feels sturdy, well balanced and not likely to be tipped over. It is easy to adjust the direction of each shade and they stay where placed. I have purchased three of these lamps for their style and quality. From a style perspective, they are sleek and elegant. I placed two of the lamps in my retro/mid-century style office, and the other in a contemporary styled loft, and they fit into the décor of each. The lights are adjustable, so you can direct light in three directions on each lamp. I find the lamps to be sturdy and well-weighted on the bottom so they do not tip over very easily if someone bumps into them. The lamps were easy for one person to assemble, and it took less than ten minutes to do so. They also are easy to clean requiring little more than a dust cloth (I don't use any cleaning products on the lamps themselves.) I *LOVE* the design of this lamp. It looks even better in person than it does in the photos. It is solidly built, out of very high quality parts. This is not a bunch of cheap stamped pot metal like most of the light fixtures on Amazon. The lamp has a 4-way switch that allows either light to be turned on independently, or both on, or both off. It is a small rotary switch set in the base of the lamp. The switch only turns one way, and it is a bit "eager," meaning that it sometimes overshoots the next position when it clicks into place. Every once in a while, this necessitates going through all 4 positions again to get it to the desired setting, hence 4 stars. Yours may not have this issue. The shades look great, but the shape and size is such that if you tilt one light so it is rotated toward you, such as pointing at a paper on your desk, part of the bare light bulb will be visible and cause glare. This is due to the "scoop" design on the rim of the shade. To avoid this, you can use a shorter light bulb such as a G16 globe bulb. The bulbs do not show with the shades pointed down, so if you leave them in this orientation, you can use a standard bulb with no issues. Lastly, the lamp is bigger than you think. This is neither good nor bad, but just something to be aware of. It is nearly two feet tall, and probably a foot wide at the widest. If you use it as a desk lamp, be sure that you have the space. I use this on my desk. Simple design. Sturdy. Base has plenty of weight to prevent it from being knocked over easily. Flexible neck keeps lamp head in place, very sturdy. My only complaint, and it's minor, is the toggle switch is off when up (away), and on when down. But not a deal breaker. Maybe the manufacturer will correct this in the future I would/will buy another. Read more
Bought two of these, and they are beautiful and well constructed. HOWEVER - they are NOT 3-way bulb compatible as the description clearly states they are. The instructions even confirm to use standard 60w incandescent or equivalent bulbs. I bought 3-ways and they don't work as 3-ways. We'll probably keep them because as I mentioned, they are beautiful, but it was very disappointing. Called customer service and she was rude and argumentative, so have fun with that as well. Very solid and heavy metal frame. Love the look. I put in very low wattage bulbs to make it more cozy. Assembly was pretty easy because it comes basically put together. I wish that antennas were more adjustable but at least the bulge fixture is! Read more
