This brought back memories for me. My parents are 100% Italian and we had a lot of pasta dinners. My mom always put me in charge of grating the parmesan cheese. We had this large circular metal bowl with a fitting lid that had a grating surface. Just like this, all the grated cheese fell into the large bowl underneath. The only difference was that the metal bowl was much larger and didn't have a serving bowl appearance to it. I had not seen one of those since my childhood, so as an adult, I would grate the cheese over a paper plate and then fold the plate to create a funnel effect so I could pour the cheese into a serving bowl. This is way more convenient! The acacia wood is so pretty...I'm all about woods and bamboo lately. Such a nice look. The grater is nice and sharp. The lid stays on while grating the cheese. And, the bottom grips are very effective in keeping the bowl in place while grating. I wish it came with a storage type lid. I put some plastic wrap over it to store it in the fridge since the grating surface has holes and that would not be a great seal. Also, the grating surface is a bit small, but that is necessary for the serving bowl to not be too big. Finally, one thing that is different from the one I used as a child is that the entire top surface is pretty flat around the outer edges so there's nothing to catch any of the grated cheese and it just gets pushed off the edge. The one I used as a child had a dip around the edge, kind of like a moat and it caught all the cheese that fell to the edges while you're grating. Not a big deal, just thought I'd mention it. My wife’s review follows… One of my favorite cheese graters ever! It’s easy to use. Effortless and efficient.. Non slippery, stable and sturdy. It has precise grating. The blade is sharp suitable for all cheeses and spices. I grated cinnamon stick to see how sharp and it blew my mind. The previous one I had i struggled with it sometimes would grate lousy and had a mind of its own, would end hurting my finger, it would cut against the blade. But I am beyond pleased with this one .It’s dishwasher safe easy to clean, absolutely no rust, made with high quality steel. It looks very modern and stylish. I love the wood. It’s beautiful. It’s well crafted I’m impressed with how well it works. I give it a five star highly recommend. Read more
The grater looks very nice. The grating section is not a good fit to the bowl and difficult to use. I expected excellent quality for the price I paid. I am disappointed. Read more
I tested this grater using some fresh parmesan cheese, then fresh ginger. The parmesan grated with no problem. The shavings were light and fluffy, perfect for sprinkling over pasta, meatballs, sub sammich - wherever you like freshly grated parmesan. Bowl cleanup was simple with a damp paper towel. Cleaning the grater was surprisingly easy as well: just run the grater under hot water, then swipe with a paper towel. Ginger grated well also, though the wet shavings needed to be scraped from the bottom of the mesh. The grated ginger was very fine, and sutiable for cooking or sprinkling over those foods that you may need a ginger boost for. Cleanup was more of a challenge due to the stringy tendency that ginger has, but was still largely using the spray hose to knock the ginger strings out of the grater holes. This bowl looks nice, and would look good on a table with either good china or paper plates. Safety tip- when not using the grater, store with the grater's smooth side up. Its unlikely that you will get cuts from light touching of the grating surface, but there is even less chance when touching the smooth side. Happy grating! Read more
Review for AdHoc Cut n Serve Fine Grater This is a lovely wooden container for this grater. The grater is super sharp and will only be good for very hard cheese. I am fine with that, for the Italian cheeses. I like this a lot better than the plastic one though that was really handy too, because it had a lid and could go right in the fridge. This is well made. And it can go right on the table. Read more
This looks amazing, and seems to clean easily and well (the top anyway) in the dishwasher. Again, as with other graters I have tried, I was hoping it would work better for nuts. It shreds items very finely, but it is difficult to use with small objects, without scraping your fingers, knuckles, or whatever you are holding the item with. It stinks to find out you have made tiny, finely grated bits if a food item, but accidentally gotten plastic or shredded bits of cloth in the bowl as well. It works very well for hard cheeses like parmesan, and makes tiny, fine shreds. It looks beautiful on the table, and all your guests could use it well. But again, as you get to the end of the small block of cheese, you are limited in how much you can do with it without injury or shredding your protective "holder". Read more
