AI THE SOMNIUM FILES - nirvanA Initiative Standard Edition for PlayStation 4

This is a sequel, but you don't need to play the original to get the story in this one. The puzzles are fun except for some puzzles that translated horribly from Japanese to English. The story is good, there are a few twists that will make you drop your ramen, so be prepared. Side note, there is another game that came out before this one that is an ARG through Twitter. I mean I'm a fan of the guys work so a little biased but I quite enjoyed the game, I feel it works better as a sequel than a standalone game, a lot of the plot expects you to know these characters so unless you've played the first I'd say so that before diving into this one. Read more

The collectors edition was worth it at launch, it's probably a little too expensive now however. You get a pop up parade figure of aiba, which is a nice quality, I'd say a step up above average prize figure quality but not premium. The art book is fun and the interviews with the devs was interesting to read. The soundtrack is great but I don't have a cd player. The game itself, I love this series. The characters really make the game. I was excited to hear that mizuki was the main character, but ryuki is great in his own way. I usually take my time with games but I finished this one quickly, it was too suspenseful to put down. The dialogues are great as always and they put a new spin on the somniums. The new virtual space investigations was also a very nice touch. I do have some complaints about the somniums. They seemed to go quantity over quality in this game. The originals puzzles were much more difficult and added a sense of mysteriousness to the game. This game does have a couple of difficult puzzles but generally they're pretty linear. The addition of some of the mini games during the somniums is fun, but overall they were too easy. I read in the interviews that they wanted to streamline the somniums but it stripped away some of the personality from the original game. Another thing about the switch version, it has the same weird problems as the first. Kind of laggy and sometimes the character models bug out. Either way this is a great game with some amazing characters, I highly recommend it to fans of visual novels and suspense stories. Read more

Y'know after looking forward to this game for a while, it was a bit of an underwhelming game. But that still doesn't diminish my love for this series, if there's ever a third game you can count me in! the characters aside from Mizuki and Ryuki, were pretty one note, i guess the highlight of the game would be the somniums, there much better and more coherent, if not linear and simple.
