Bought my first unit (a 4000) direct from AllerAir in 2008 to remove cigarette smoke in my home office. Worked very well. Only reason I bought this one was because it was time to change the charcoal filter and a new filter was priced almost as much as this complete unit (plus it showed a 3-month wait). I have since bought a new filter for my 4000 and it is ready to go. These things work great! Only problem is replacement filters are crazy expensive. Read more
We have purchased 2 of these and are about to buy a third. We have no specific health issues, however we would often wake up stuffy and I go from a cold to bronchitis almost immediately. So I guess we bought them as a preventative measure. I know this is not "scientific" but for the past 2 winters neither of us has had a cold or gotten the flu - for the first time I can remember. BTW I run them all the time on low/medium, and have not found the noise problematic. Read more

This purifier is a rubbish, first, there is no effect of cleaning the air, it was designed very stupid, as it even doesn't have any display to show the air quanlity, and without detector to show how the air is purified, so I used it for two days with my own detector to see how it could clean the air, and I was really astonished to find, there is no effect at all, only with the noise from it, even when it goes with the slowest speed, my family can not bear with the noise during the night. The worse happened when I opened the cover of the bottem, where with the HEPA, and CARBON, and it was really a surprise to see the CARBON filter was already used, the fabric was black while the label was attrited obviously! It's really a disaster for me to buy such item from AMAZON! Read more

Excellent product - we have purchased two of these in the past two years. This one was for our son's family in Arizona Read more
I felt compelled to write this review because I am baffled by the negative reviews I'm reading about AllerAir's products. This is a serious workhorse air purifier, not a pretty, plastic piece of junk you'd buy off-the-shelf at Home Depot or Walmart. This company makes air purifiers for factories and medical facilities. I've bought an industrial one on behalf of a client who manages buildings. Yes, it doesn't have a fancy digital read-out for filter changes (which an engineer friend told me was on a timer anyway and not tied into your filters at all), and is simple in design, but that's fine with me because it works, especially on odors. In fact, in our house it worked a little too well. We discovered that our cat had peed in our son's closet and didn't discover this until the air purifier, which usually runs 24/7, was accidentally shut off. The pee had been there God knows how long, but we didn't smell it because of the air purifier. And that's the AllerAir air purifier we bought in 2005, which still works perfectly after 11 years of constant use. The thing is a tank. We also used it effectively in our very first apartment when our new neighbor had an "alternative" smoking habit. I've also used it in my painting studio with great success. You really can't beat it for odors and chemicals. I would suggest if you have doubts about this company, call them directly. They were always very helpful and never pushy. They talked me through a filter change and even sent me a free pre-filter one time. It's really one of the few products I've bought (along with my Dyson vacuum) that I look at everyday and say, "That was worth what I paid for it." Super reliable, long-lasting and very versatile for any chemical/odor. Not fancy, but I actually appreciate that. It just works and doesn't have any garbage features or computer parts to break down. Just turn it on, that's it. It's good for dust too. We originally bought it to combat my dust allergy and got the upgraded chemical filter as it was on promotion that month and came free. I'm glad we did. I think the thing is great. Read more
