I've never written a review before but because I'm so happy with this purchase and there aren't many reviews yet, I decided to write one. Things I LOVE about my new AirDoctor 5000: Bacteria & Viruses are between 0.02 - 0.2 microns in size, pollen is 10-20 microns, mold is 10 microns, dust is 5 microns, and smoke is 0.1-1 micron. The AirDoctor removes particles/PM 2.5 down to 0.003 microns, which is SO MUCH SMALLER than any of these contaminants! This is my favorite feature of all and the main reason why I got an AirDoctor for our family. My son has allergies. We've had two standard HEPA filters turned on at home for several years. The first day we got our AirDoctor 5000 he said it was a noticeable difference, and that it is really helping him a lot! The other reason I got this brand is that it was highly recommended by 3 people with allergies who keep telling me about how great it is. I have an open concept living/dining room and kitchen so I thought I'd get this larger one. It's QUIET! For the first several days I kept checking to make sure that it was on because I couldn't hear it. With the wheel design, it moves easily on both hard floors and carpet. I very much wanted and needed this HEPA carbon filter to work. My wife has awful allergies year round. She is also very sensitive to odors or scents. I researched and researched through Amazon reviews as well as multiple industry reviews to select the best unit. And this unit was suppose to be one of the best. The Good: Its arrived well packaged and on time. The unit is attractive, light and very easy to roll around. The control board is easy to use. Love the auto setting feature, fan speed options and color lights to indicated when filters need to be replaced and how clean the air is. The auto feature is quiet once it purifies the air and the dim light feature is nice when running a night. The Bad: No review ever stated that this Air Dr unit process a scent even with the ionizer not actuated. It smells like a fabric softener smell which is what an ionizer unit would smell like. Turned on an ran on auto on the first night. Next morning my wife felt like she had Pneumonia. She looked and felt deathly ill. I double checked to ensure the ionizer was not on - it wasn't and tried running it for 4 straight days while my wife slept in another room. No effect. The unit process that same smell. HEPA filters should be odorless, this one is not! Bottom line: don't purchase if anyone in your home is sensitive to odors or scents. Thank goodness that unit was purchased on Amazon. They accepted my return free of charge with full refund since i owned it for less than 30 days. The remedy: i am going to bite the bullet ( a very expensive) and have a Abatement Air whole house HEPA filter installed on my HVAC unit, have installed UV-C lamps next to my HVAC evaporator coil and my air return, then finally install a Aprilaire 4" MERV 16 air filter. If i think of it, i will update the post to let you know how effective the remedy measures are to alleviate my wife's allergy issues, specifically pet dander, dust, mold and mildew, not to mention odors and scents. My AIRDOCTOR 5000 arrived one week ago and I feel confident, after using it for just one week, that it will live up to all of my expectations. One thing in particular I noticed is that is has already eliminated the odor of mildew in a wood cabinet which has a tendency to build up during hot and muggy weather. There are several things I love about the airdoctor 5000. A few which are comment worthy are: The wheels-it is easy to move to another room if needed. the negative ion generator truly quiet operation except if something has burned in the kitchen, and the setting to turn off the lights at night. I think the company has done an excellent job of educating us about the importance of the air quality in our home and what we can do about it. I highly recommend this product. Mary D.
