I had a recent trip to Miami with spirit airlines. They were charging 75usd to bring a Carry-on. I was not going to pay and decided to buy a vacuum seal backpack (personal items are free). This backpack is a CHEAT CODE, it passed by the gate officers, I had to put it the head compartment. The backpack is so good that fit clothes for a full week without having to wash any of them. It is a little large but not overly bulky. You can vacuum, then compress it using the side cords, and it gets very compact. I would just recommend darker colors, as my wife got the white one, and just from a single trip it got a little dirty (you can always clean but you know what I mean).
