I've been purchasing white, cotton, terrycloth robes for decades. I wear a lighter, cotton waffle-weave "spa" type robe for summer, and heavier, towel-like terry for the other three seasons. They such a trademark for me that my family jokingly call my terry robes my "angel suits." I've tried microfiber, but decades before the conclusion became science, I sense that wearing a lot of plastic isn't the best way to go. And I just prefer the feeling of cotton in a robe. It keeps me warm yet it's not sweat-inducing like plastic microfiber. But I wear my cozy terry robes so often, that they do wear out. And I prefer white, but of course, that's the most challenging color for removing stains -- except that white cotton can be bleached, which I do. I do have a medium-gray terry robe, but... a gray angel suit?? Anyway, it was time for a new robe, and I was excited to receive this one. This robe is a mid-weight terry. Heavy weight terrycloth robes can be too heavy for some folks. I'm OK with either. This terrycloth has two finishes -- a fine-loop (called "velour" but velour can be plastic; this isn't) on the outside and larger loop inside, so the outside feels kind of velvety, while the inside is more like a traditional terrycloth bath towel. Like a cotton bath towel , this robe is very absorbent for wearing after a shower -- much more so than microfiber. Because it's absorbent, it doesn't dry as quickly as a plastic /microfiber that repels water. It dries like a cotton towel. Since this robe isn't super-heavy-weight, it does dry reasonably quickly. I usually wear an L except in Asian-made pants that run a bit small. I ordered the L/XL. It's sufficiently roomy everywhere although it wraps more like an L than an XL. It appears well made with nicely sewn seams. It has straight, rectangular pockets, about as deep as my hand. It comes with a matching belt that appears unlikely to come unsewn like some of mine have, because it's sewn with several rows of stitching that form a line pattern. (See photo for fabric finishes and belt pattern.) I'm 5'6". Length is a bit below my knees. It has a nice hood for cold weather. It washed and dried well. Definitely some, like all new cotton towels, but not an excessive amount of lint in the dryer screen. As for value, this is about what I paid not long ago for a heavy, Turkish-cotton terrycloth, hooded robe, long length, but...inflation. A few tips from experience about shopping for this type of robe: The word "plush" can be misleading. Verify the robe is 100% cotton, not microfiber. A hood will cost maybe $20+ more than no hood, but they're nice to have when you jump out of a shower or pool in cool/cold weather with wet hair -- or nice even with dry hair in the cold. 100% cotton terry does come in a range of quality. Terry robes appear currently priced from the $30s to $100+. What's the difference? Other than hood and length, for one thing, fabric weight/thickness For another, what eventually "kills" most of my robes is the fabric getting sort of brittle or dry and ripping. This could be partly from occasional bleaching, which is pretty much essential if you cook or eat in a white robe. But some terry just seems to be a better quality than others. In my experience, thin terry is not a good investment. I don't mind very heavy robes, but for those who prefer medium-weight, this terry appears to be a good-enough quality so that I'm not afraid it'll "bite the dust" unreasonably early. I can't yet comment on durability, but all-in-all, despite this climate of inflation/profit+, I think this robe, so far, represents a good purchase, and so I recommend it. I definitely recommend 100% cotton terrycloth robes, and Amazon seems to have a good selection, whereas prices from some other shops can be, in a word, crazy. Extremely high-priced terry robes may last a bit longer, but I haven't seen that they justify a huge difference in price. Because white/light-color terry can eventually stain, I'd rather plan to buy two good-quality robes rather than one crazy-expensive version. Read more
