Stylish & Sharp Starter Set, But Not Professional Grade
This all black knife set with orange accents looks fantastic on the counter. I’ve always loved the orange and black color combo. It gives a bold, modern look that feels more high-end than the price suggests. Out of the box the blades are impressively sharp. However, I couldn’t find any information about the type of steel used. That likely means it’s a lower grade material that won’t hold its edge for long. Not so bad they will rust away, just be prepared to sharpen them regularly. They’re solid and well balanced, but the blades are definitely thinner than professional knives. Performance wise; the steak knives, utility knife, and paring knife all do their jobs well. But as with any set, the chef’s knives and bread knife are the real workhorses, and these did not disappoint. Both chef’s knives carved a ripe tomato into credit-card-thin slices without any squishing, and the bread knife easily cut a soft loaf into even slices as thin and clean as store bought bread. The bread knife might actually be my favorite piece in the set! This would make a great housewarming gift. The outer box is “sharp” looking and presentable, though the inside packaging isn’t quite as nice. Overall, this is a solid entry-level or backup set. If you’re just looking for an attractive, space saving, functional set of everyday knives, this one fits the bill. But if you’re hoping to upgrade to chef quality tools, I’d look elsewhere. Read more
