I bought this mat to replace the 20+year old mat in our office. This is not rigid or strong enough to support a rolling chair, much less someone sitting in the chair. It is not thick or sturdy enough to provide a solid surface for a chair to roll over, it will protect carpet from spills, but so will any plastic tarp. Not being a rigid mat means it does not provide a stable surface and simply sinks under the wheels. The "nibs" are actually spikes, and when I pulled it out of the box, the spikes grabbed my fingers. I was able to unroll it, after placing it on a dark sheet in the Summer sun, but it's still slightly curled, and after the chair sat on it overnight, it's got 5 divots on it where the wheels are. I understand you "get what you pay for", but the price of this is the same as a rigid PVC mat you could pick up at your local office supply or home goods store, which is where I'll be going to replace this. Basically I think in China they take these hot off the mold roll them up and band them and pack into a box. It sets up and holds the roll like a spring. The instructions to “simply” flatten them out minimizes the actual trouble. Maybe if your office is outside in Amazon @ 108F degrees it would work, mine @ 73 Deg. I used chairs and boards with dumbbell weights and in over a month it’s only sort of flat. Plus the plastic is thinner and softer than the mat it replaced. More rolling resistance and the wheels leave temporary dents. Hopefully this also works to advantage and the mat will not end up cracked with time. Update: 1/24/25 It's been over 2 months of weights pressing and my chair rolling on top and I give up on trying to remove all the ripples and bumps. Read more
