Apple Magic Keyboard with Touch ID for Mac Models with Apple Silicon - US English Bluetooth

This is a perfect integration with my new Mac Mini. I added the trackpad and a portable HD screen and I now have a laptop equivalent. Having TouchID on the keyboard is great to quickly get back to Mac without stopping to type a passphrase. The size and construction is perfect (I might seek a slip cover for portability). Charging is rarely needed (I've had this for quite a while and only charged it once (to see how long it would take, but to be fair, the battery was at 80% so I don't really know how long it will last before needing a full charge) the connection is fine and charge speed seems fast). Pros: If you like the keyboard feel from Apple laptops this is for you. Small, portable, light weight. Battery life is good. Touch ID cool. Cons: No backlight, which make this borderline a horrendous value. So yeah, price is the only real Con since it's expensive with competitor brands being as good (or better) in quality for better in price. Summary: If you really want Touch ID in a USB keyboard, this is good. I enjoy typing on it. Otherwise, if you don't care about Touch ID, and want a similar form factor, get the Logitech MX Keys Mini. Guides show that mac os should automatically prompt you to add a fingerprint when you connect the keyboard for the first time so that you can use touch id. This unit will not work at all on either of the 2 macbook airs that I own. This unit costs $50 more than the non-touch id model and you get absolutely nothing for the extra money. Apple is usually great about having everything work seamlessly but if you look deeper into thier ecosystem or as a developer you'll see so many cracks that make you question how this trash company rose to such prominance. I am typing this right now on the new keyboard so it is connected properly. I've tried wired and wireless. I've tried manually adding a new fingerprint but the macbook doesn't register when I place any fingers on the sensor. In the bluetooth connection the unit appears as magic keyboard rather than magic keyboard with touch id. My unit was supposed to be new from the official apple seller on amazon. Even typing on this keyboard compared to my previous logitech g513 I am missing the old keyboard. Worse yet, typing on this doesn't feel as satisfying as typing on the macbook in front of me. The only value this hunk of junk has at all is the touch id feature and it doesn't even work. If apple allowed a third party touch id sensor or an external sensor separate from the rest fo the system or even face id this review wouldn't be so negative, but the fact that they force feed you this garbage and expect you to bend over for it is absolutely rediculous. I'll update this review if apple sends an update that fixes the issue but even if they get it working perfectly I'll raise it to 2 stars. They set a precedence and expectation for thier crap to be the best in the market or the easiest to use and as far as I can tell they consistently fail to reach thier own standards. Read more
