I thought it was odd that the humidifier would have a condensate drain because it's job is to add humidity. All traditional humidifiers use every ounce of water you put in them. Once I hooked everything up, water was running out of the condensate drain. Not dripping, running. I called the manufacturer and they asked me to measure how much was coming out. It was about 7 gallons an hour. The manufacturer said that is normal. It pulls around 6 gallons of water an hour but only uses a half gallon to make humidity. That is over 4,000 gallons a month The machine wastes. It would cost me $45 to $50 a month in water just to run it. Completely useless! I must say the build quality was very high as I expect from this manufacturer which is the only reason why I gave it two stars. High build quality but something that should have never been built in the first place. Very disappointing Read more
Had this 2 years now. Works pretty well. My furnace isn't laid out well for a bypass humidifier, and I got tired of filling room humidifiers daily. This blows a lot of air and is not recommended to connect to the furnace duct and potentially create back-pressure into the running furnace, so I located my outflow vent in the hallway a few feet from by main furnace intake where it sucks in most of the humid air to distribute to the rest of the house. Not ideal but works well enough. I set the humidistat to 48 (almost max) and it boosts the rest the house up to the high 30s (it's normally low 20s without humidification in our 2700 sf house). It's noisier than I hoped. Even located in the closed furnace room in the hallway and using flex duct to the vents, we still hear the low droning of the fan 2 rooms away. Not terrible, but not quiet either. Probably on par with a regular room humidifier, but with the advantage of being able to locate it in a hallway where it's less noticeable. Wastes a lot of water. Looks like my water bill is up about 3000-4000 gallons/month in the 6 months I used it. The filters clog with scale every 2-3 months and need replacing. First year I tried just one replacement midseason (3 month per filter), but now I replace every 1-2 months. I'll see the humistat no longer being able to reach the 48 target, and gradually get lower each week. That also means it's not cycling off and the water is running continuously. It's actually cheaper to replace the filters more often to use less water. Buy filters by the case (10). The drain hose also clogs with scale. Twice now mine has totally clogged, causing the unit to back up and leak. Had 2 mini-floods that I didn't notice for at least a day. Per the owners manual, need to keep an eye on the drain hose (I used 1/2" clear plastic). Remove it and flush it in the sink with water on full. I hold it tight to faucet head to get as much pressure as I can. Read more
This does not work as effectively as a traditional bypass humidifier. It consumes a lot of water Vs what makes it into the air. I think they need to work a heating element into this to make it more efficient as a humidifier. I tossed the included humidistat and let my ecobee premium control it. You don't need 24V to control this, all you have to do is short the thermostat terminals, so using a different humidistat is very easy. It's a great unit and solves a problem for those of us without fan forced heat. It's also a clever install and easy to hide. It just needs some improvement. Read more
