2nd one, 1st lasted a couple decades
I had this same model (made in America) in my house from the 70s, I just bought the same exact model to replace it (made in China). I can honestly say the new one is better made than the old one. The metal is about the same thickness, but the bottom grate is better and is moveable (you can open the grate with a handle supplied with the stove to dump the ashes) in the new model. I would recommend this model especially if it is on sale. I paid $1100 on sale. It is a coal burner, so it is not as efficient as a newfangled wood burner, but I don't care about efficiency I care about burning a lot of wood, as we produce a lot on my farm and need to burn through it before it rots. I could not get the 6" pipe to fit so I had to make it smaller and then tape the seams excessively to get it not to leak smoke. I recommend burning it 1st outside the house to get all the paint burned off before you use it inside. Update: Year two. stove is still working great. I have burned many many UTV and Trailer loads of wood. Everything still works, I clean it out frequently and empty ash as needed. It is big enough to put big chunks of wood into it and is long enough so I don't have to be too picky on length (18-24"), might have to put some stuff in crossways to get it to fit, I don't care I as long as it fits. All the Cherry trees are coming down nowadays, the Ashe trees are all about dead, but I will still be burning them for years. This stove has worked out great and is the right size for the amount of wood I burn (alot)... As an Environmental Scientist I like to inform people that if you didn't know it; this age of the planet (whether it's an ending ice age or warming age, we are not sure which) is coming to an end (This age is called the Maple, Beech age).
