Astra-Derby-Shark-Tiger-Sharp Double Edge Razor Blades Sampler 30 Blades

The blades that came w my DE safety razor left me with a dozen knicks per shave and took the advice to try better blades vs. getting a new razor. Glad I tried this variety pack and confirmed that. Near all of these were dramatic improvements to what was provided. I think I have sensitive skin and despite going to near zero manual pressure beyond the weight of the razor, I still do get a very minor nick or two most shaves. However, huge difference between the blades and after trying each one at minimum 2-3 shaves per blade type I can make my rankings. I considered closeness of shave (sharpness), cut frequency, & performance on 2nd shave (durability). I only use the same blade for 2 shaves before switching blades. My rankings: 1 - Derby. This was the most forgiving on cuts and irritation without giving up a good shave. Not as sharp as Feather / Gillette, but not far behind and I prefer not dealing with cuts. Dramatically better than all the others on irritation. Performs good on 1st and 2nd shave. I don't find any of these blades can do more than 2 shaves without degraded performance. 2 - Feather. This is the sharpest blade and gives the best shave. Given it is sharper, it yields slightly more in nicks and irritation than Derby, but overall was a close second. I do 2 passes per shave and it does well over 2 shaves (4 passes). 3 - Gillette (perma-sharp). This is about as sharp as Feather for the first shave. It cut me up some on a second shave so don't think it holds up as good, but was a really good first shave. Since it only lasts me one shave, it would cost double vs. Feather to change each shave so no contest on that front. 4 - Astra. This was also very sharp, but cut me much more than the other sharp blades listed above. I don't see a reason for me to use these further as the other 3 were just better on cuts and irritation. 5&6 - Shark/Tiger. Didn't stand out in any category, but not bad. Nothing I would try to save a penny over and buy more of given Derby and Feather were clearly better for me. Read more

If you're a beginner in the DE safety razor world, or even an experienced wet shaver, it just makes sense to pick up a sample pack of different makes and brands of blades. Some you'll like, some you'll love, others you may not care for. But for a very reasonable price, you can sample many different blades and see which ones work for your face and your razor(s). My favorites are the Perma-Sharp, Shark Super Stainless & Astra SP. Haven't tried the Tiger or Feather yet but I know the Feather is the sharpest blade out there. I started using a safety razor to cut down on single-use plastics. I was new to the world of buying razor blades and didn’t know what brand was best. This variety pack lets you try several brands, and since there are 5 blades each, you can try them multiple times. My favorites so far are Shark and Astra.
