Authentic Savon de Marseille Soap - French Milled Bar Soap with Saponified Olive Oil - Fragrance-Free 100 Natural

I had first purchased this soap on a recent trip to Marseille, France. This is the famous soap of Marseille. It is not a perfumed soap, and in fact, the scent may be off-putting to some as it is unexpected. It's made with a high percentage of olive oil with no perfumes, dyes, or other additives. While some say it has an "earthy, vegetal scent" my daughter describes it as "eau de diesel". It dissipates from the block over time. The unique scent does not remain on the skin; you just smell clean, if that makes sense. This soap is non-drying, and doesn't irritate the skin. The giant block is a good value as it lasts for months. Note when purchasing: there are other soaps that may or may not be Marseille soap, in lots of colors and scents with other additives. If I could, I’d give this zero stars. The soap reeks of rancid plastic—an awful, stomach-turning stench that hits you immediately. I thought maybe it was just the packaging and tried washing it off, but the smell is the soap. It’s an oily stinky residue that seeps into your skin, and now my hands smell like rancid plastic too. My spouse was disgusted, and even our dogs won’t go near it. 0/10, which is heartbreaking because I usually love this brand. To make matters worse, it arrived looking beaten up—and this was after using it once to try to wash the smell off. Update: cut open the soap to see if smell is just on the outside or is throughout - it’s throughout. This is only possible if the fat (olive oil) itself has gone rancid and the company didn’t conduct quality checks and still sold it to us. Read more

I have been to this shop in France and love this soap. I have a lot of skin issues and this soothes my skin and keeps it from drying out so bad. The smell is clean but different. Thankful for Amazon as tried ordering however they didn’t offer the option of shipping to the states. Read more

This soap with olive oil has done wonders with my skin. Cleared and moisturized my skin. I dont want to use any other soap on my skin. Only soap from Marseille has that much olive oil in it. Read more

This is great soap, but I selected this specific product because the photo showed a white/beige soap rather than the green. Some people use this for multipurpose cleaning and the white version is what you want. So if you are looking here for that, just know it will come in the green. Read more
