Overview: These glass watering globes are decorative, self-watering devices designed to keep indoor or outdoor plants hydrated over time. Made of glass, they consist of a hollow globe attached to a narrow stem that you insert into the soil. β
Pros Convenience: Great for busy plant owners or frequent travelers. They can keep soil moist for up to 1β2 weeks depending on the plant and soil type. Mine did well for 11 days. Aesthetic Appeal: Available in various colors and designs, they add a charming touch to plant pots. Eco-Friendly: Reusable and made from glass, theyβre a sustainable alternative to plastic watering systems. Gentle Watering: They release water slowly, helping prevent overwatering and root rot. β Cons Limited Control: Water release rate depends on soil density and moisture level, which can vary widely. Some of mine ran out faster than others. Fragility: Being glass, theyβre prone to breaking if dropped or mishandled. Clogging Issues: Soil can block the stem, especially in dense or compacted soil, reducing effectiveness. Using the sleeves helps with this! Size Constraints: The small bulbs are not ideal for large plants or deep pots; better suited for small to medium-sized containers. π± Best Use Cases Houseplants like pothos, peace lilies, or spider plants. Vacation watering for up to a week. Decorative touch for indoor plant displays. Low-maintenance hydration for office plants. π Final Verdict Glass watering globes are a stylish and practical solution for keeping plants hydrated with minimal effort. While theyβre not a replacement for attentive plant care, theyβre a helpful toolβespecially for forgetful or busy plant parents. Just be mindful of soil type and placement to get the best results. Two weeks ago I would have given this 5 stars. It worked so well on two plants that require watering every few days, even though I was out of town for 10 days. When I returned the plants were healthy and happy. Two days ago I decided to put them back on the globes so I didn't have to monitor them so closely, but the water ran through one globe within 24 hours. They looked great and sometimes work perfectly. The media could not be loaded. I purchased the Jumbo, Medium and Small on March 30, 2024 because they are blown glass, very colorful and are environmentally conscious PLUS I love the name Little Green Leaf. Also bought them because I wanted an environmentally safe watering system because I bought lots of plants, all sizes, during Easter 2024 from a nursery that uses environmentally safe fertilizers and has excellent customer service. I learned through my tests description below that LGL has Excellent Customer Service. Read On. After running several tests with the Small & Medium Globes to learn how they work, I decided to keep all three sizes yet ONLY AFTER I emailed Little Green Leaf (LGL) to inform them of my concern and to recommend adding the Tip Adapter to all their Globes. Gene, LGL customer support, responded within 24 hours and they plans to add the Tip Adapters to all their Globes and potentially include detailed instructions or a video. Excellent Customer Service and took my recommendations seriously. I'm glad I purchased all 3 sizes, otherwise I wouldn't have learned about their Tip Adapter included with The SMALL GLOBES and PROBABLY would have returned them all. The MEDIUM CLEAR GLOBES HAVE A NARROW FLAT TIP INSTEAD OF THE LARGER ANGLED TIP. THESE I DECIDED TO KEEP AND USE FOR A TRICKLE FLOW ON MOIST SOIL. The Tip Adapter INCLUDED WITH THE SMALL GLOBES serves a dual purpose. I wasn't quite sure what it was for: LEARNED: It can be used for: 1. to create the hole in the soil; 2. to provide a trickle flow on smaller plants or on moist woil 3. to use as an extension. The photo shows the tip adapter installed at the end of the globe stem. THE VIDEO SHOWS THE SMALL GLOBE without THE TIP ADAPTER FLOWING MUCH FASTER than the MEDIUM GLOBE, without the Tip Adapter because it has a narrower flat tip. THEY DO WORK. My Series of Tests: TEST #1.-I tested the Globe Stem on Dry Soil and found that when I inserted the stem into the dry soil without the tip adapter the globe stem opening would clog most of the time. (Lesson learned: Create a round Hole & deep in the Soil First for the Stem) TEST #2.-I added the Tip Adapter to the Globe Stem, inserted it into another section of the dry soil and the water began to flow ,yet very slow. The tiny Adapter Tip didn't clog. (Lesson Learned: Use it as a soil hole maker and for a slow water flow) TEST #3-removed the Tip Adapter from the Globe Stem, inserted the Globe Stem into the same dry soil hole and water flowed faster. Had to refill several times as the soil was dry. (Lesson Learned: Use the Adapter Tip to make the hole in the soil and Use the Globes on Moist Soil for intermittent water, with or without the Tip Adapter-depends on whether I want a Trickle or Faster Flow.) Using the Globes on dry soil requires multiple Globe Fills. My Personal Interest on Blown Glass Globes and the Environment: ..The Blown Glass Globes reminded me of Finders Keepers Glass Floats/Globes blown by Oregon Artists and Contributed to be hidden along Oregon Coast Shoreline and encourage people to collect trash along the coast. Whoever Finds One Gets to Keep It. To Win One, people collect trash along the coast while searching to find one and enter a contest to win a Glass Float at Lincoln City, OR. I lived in Oregon 19 yrs and learned a lot more about protecting our environment. Thank You Little Green Leaf Folks for your contribution to protecting our environment with your Blown Glass Globes....Lillie Read more
