What caught my eye was the "waist training". I have very clear ab definition and my body fat rarely goes above 7%. Yet, my gut often sticks out. The reason is I sit during my long work days and that takes its toll on posture and abdominal tension. Over time, pressure from behind the abdominal wall wins out. And then the small intestines expand to fill the space and there's even more pressure. I first tried to fix this problem using a standard weight lifting belt. But because of how that fits and the way it adjusts, it didn't help much and was very uncomfortable. So I tried a different weight lifting belt and again did not get the results I wanted. Then I tried a hook and loop waist belt that is wide like a weight lifting belt. It doesn't cinch up enough and it stretches too easily. It provided only moderate help; making any real progress would require wearing it at least 10 hours a day. I also tried wrapping with an elastic bandage, very disappointing, uncomfortable, and inconvenient. Then I tried this. In a word, WOW! This has straps that are arranged to exert pressure right where you need it. After my first day of wearing this for three half hour sessions spaced across the day, I saw an amazing change. My tummy was noticeably flatter. Exerting that continual inward pressure from the outside had an additional effect of reclaiming the space occupied by bloated small intestines, squeezing them back toward their original size and emptying them of the "filler" material that isn't healthy to carry around anyhow. I haven't used this while weight training, but I can see it will give you more support and protection when squatting than a standard weight lifting belt would. On leg day, I do several different types of squats. Since my goal is to train, not perform, I do these without a belt. My strategy for the next few weeks will be a couple of daily short sessions (30 to 40 minutes) with this as tight as I can get it, followed by a longer session with it adjusted to provide comfortable support. I think once the ligaments and fascia have contracted back to their original lengths, I will be able to go on a maintenance routine of maybe a session a week. A final remark on how this differs from the other products I have tried. It is comfortable, even when cinched tight. I don't get nauseated, find breathing increasingly difficult, or get numbness in my legs as I did with the other approaches when used for extended periods. It doesn't slip, doesn't bind, doesn't pinch, and doesn't put pressure on my bladder or my ribs. Given this, you could wear it all day long for general protection while lifting but also for protection from the number one thing that leads to back problems: sitting. Read more
I've been using another, similar-style back brace for the past 5 years. I use it when working in the yard, around the house, or on my cars...basically, whenever I do something that requires me to pick up and put down things frequently or anything that causes strain on my back. That's worked pretty well, but I figured after 5 years, maybe there are better braces available that don't cost much, so I tried this one out. Overall, I like this brace and I think it works better than my older one, so this is the main one I use now. I've been using it for just over a month. This time of year, I do a lot that I've worn it for. Whether its wintertime car maintenance, putting up/taking down holiday decorations, doing extra household cleaning before/after holiday get-together, I've used this brace at least a dozen times now. I love that provides noticeably more support than my older brace, but it's still comfortable to wear for hours at a time and easy to put on and take off. After only about a month, I can't really speak much towards its durability, but it has held up well so far, and I have no concerns about it not lasting at least as long as the older 5-year-old brace I have, because they look equivalently well-made. If anything negative happens on this front in the next few years, I'll update this review. There really are just a couple of minor-ish complaints I have, which caused me to ding an otherwise great back brace (at least in my experience) 1 star: - This brace is available in 5 sizes, but I could not find any sizing information at all when I ordered it. I basically just went with my typical shirt size of medium, and I ended up getting a size that worked well for me. - At $35 at time of order, that pricing puts it about in the middle of similar back braces on this site, so that value is about average. However, it regularly goes down to under $30, which makes it a much better value. Read more
