I used a firm feather pillow from Ikea before I bought this pillow. I have had bad neck pain for a long time. I go to a pain management specialist for nerve ablations in my neck, so I am always on the hunt for a pain reducing pillow. I figured WTH on this one. The first night I had a noticeable reduction in neck pain and stiffness so I think this is a win. Didn't notice a smell at all after unpacking it. Its a dense pillow meaning it has a little weight to it, but not enough that makes it difficult to move or fluff when tired. I've just invested in a latex mattress. I'm in my fifties and get a stiff neck when using the wrong pillow. Really like the firm but springy latex, sleep cool with it being breathable. Didn't go back to my mattress firm because it took ages to ship. Had a favorite memory pillow with indent that needed replacing, sleeps hot, heavy but firm and supportive, and I thought about a shredded latex pillow. Liked the reviews online/reddit about latex with kapok and thought I'd struck gold with Avocado's pillow especially as Amazon ships promptly. I've tried it and it doesn't give enough support. One other review says "too firm" and in the description too thin for side sleepers. This isn't exactly right. Not firm enough and too thin for side sleepers is more accurate. What's annoying is Its nearly correct. Avocado provides the pillow plus an extra bag 1/2 pound of filler that I've already added. I could tell it was too squishy before using it but gave it a go. I've woken up creaky but not kinked my neck yet, but can tell its not supportive enough. One suggestion for Avocado. Why not offer a way to purchase 1/2 pound extra bags of latex/kapok? I think an additional 1/2 or 1 pound of stuffing would fix my issues. Now I'm torn about going DIY and buying more or returning which I'm loath to do. My other option is adding a skinny second pillow to give me that added bit of height. But I toss and turn and swap my position a lot, so can see me getting in a mess. Maybe I can get used to this pillow but so wanted it to work out the box (so to speak). I will say this. I like the pillow in that it sleeps cooler and it is soft and like the fact its squishy, just wish my head wouldn't go so deep that my necks not supported. Read more

A little too firm for me, turns out. This firmness also flattens out pretty fast so you'll need to fluff it almost daily. But it is a high quality pillow. I would just want a fluffier one. It's also semi heavy if you're not used to natural materials. Read more

This is my new favorite pillow! It provides great support for my neck. It's not too firm and it's not too soft, as it's a balanced firmness.
