I have to provide a 2 gram low sodium diet in our home and am constantly looking for different low sodium substitutes! I found this 2 lb container of Badia Cream of Tartar. It cost $17.23 ($0.54 / Ounce). A great value! I typically purchase no sodium baking powder. We go through a lot because we substitute baking powder for baking soda by using a 3 parts baking powder for every 1 part baking soda we would have used. However, no sodium baking powder had been unavailable for awhile. I learned that you can substitute 1/4 tsp baking soda with 1/2 tsp of cream of tartar for every 1 tsp of baking powder needed. This still decreases the amount of sodium by a substantial amount. I was able to replace my sodium free baking powder with this low sodium alternative conveniently, easily and affordably. It was just as effective and added to the flavor, being that my substitution required a small amount of Baking soda. It is kosher, clean and of great quality. It arrived timely and was nicely packaged. Thanks for your service. I would definitely purchase this again! Erica Dillon - MMDO Read more

I bought this years ago and it's still good to go. Great shelf life. I use in in my bath bombs and occasionally cook with it and I still haven't ran out yet. Of course a little goes a long way. Will buy again when I start to get low on this one. Read more
This cream of tartar works very well to make homemade Play-Doh. I like to make big batches of it and I like that this is a good price for a large amount. Read more

Excellent Price Value, use this to make my own baking powder without aluminum, and homemade marshmallow cream Baking Powder Combine: 1 part baking soda 1 part arrowroot powder/cornstarch 2 parts cream of tartar I prefer to use organic cornstarch vs arrowroot (purchased "Let's Do Organic" from Amazon) Homemade marshmallow cream: *Note this is NOT stiff enough to hold shape as frosting, but will taste great! Medium batch 5 large egg whites (150g liquid whites) 1-1/4 c sugar (250g) 1/3 tsp cream of tartar ~~~~~~~~~ Small batch 4 egg whites 200g sugar *1/4 tsp cream of tartar 1 drop red food color (Perfect Shade of Pink!) Place the egg whites, sugar and cream of tartar in the stand mixer stainless bowl, and simmer over a pot of water (not boiling), whisking constantly but Gently, until temperature reaches 140°F, OR if you don't have a candy thermometer, whisk until the sugar has Completely Dissolved and the egg whites are Hot. *If the mixture begins to look white-ish Remove asap to be whipped, or the eggs may begin to curdle With whisk attachment of mixer, begin to whip until the meringue is thick, glossy, and the bottom of the bowl feels neutral to the touch (this can take up to 10 minutes or so). As a cyclist, we rely on potassium to fend against muscle cramps. Cream of Tartar is very high in potassium, and bypasses the need to eat lbs of bananas. I like bananas, but everyone has a limit lol. Each teaspoon is about 200mg of potassium, equal to one average banana. So 4 of these in about 6oz of water, thrown down the neck is damn near a bundle of bananas without the full gut of banana meat. Definite win. Only drawback is that it's not necessarily 'tasty'. Kind of tastes like a slightly grittier baking soda. But, to be 100% fair, this powder was never intended to be consumed like this, or noted for it's delicious natural flavors, and those aren't the reasons why I bought it either. I only took off one star because of the weirdo flavor, which I'm now used to. the product it self, for cyclists, is fantastic. Read more
