I gave it five stars, even though this is not a "great" movie, as in those that win Academy Awards. It more fits into "B" movie status, but in the context of it being a self-described western comedy, it's just excellent! I just bought the DVD; I had waited years for this to come out on Blu-ray, but finally checked out the DVD, and the price was very nice, so I bought it. I needn't have worried about video or audio quality, both are great. My Oppo Blu-ray player upconverted the video; it looked wonderful on my 60" plasma (viewed in a totally dark home theater). The photography was gorgeous, with jaw-dropping scenic vistas at every turn; Cruz and Hayak were also gorgeous, but that was a given. No complaints with the audio either through my 9.1 channel system; really nice. Produced and written by Luc Besson (one of my favorites), the story was complete, feel-good and classy, somewhat of a surprise. Really good chemistry between Cruz and Hayak; I learned from the extra features that they are good friends and had wanted to do a movie together, but when they could not find one, they put Bandidas together themselves--it was clear they had fun doing the movie. Steven Zahn, their partner in crime, is also one of their mutual friends; he rounded out the threesome. Not a heavy movie--just fun! Good for repeat viewings, for sure. Read more

This is a great western (okay, it's not John Wayne or Clint Eastwood) but it's a lot of fun. A great cast with Penelope Cruz, Salma Hayek, Steve Zahn, Sam Sheppard, and Dwight Yoakam!!! Both Cruz and Hayek are perfect as good outlaws and funny too. The story and special effects are awesome and the script is smart and well written. The chemistry between the two hot babes is unforgettable. The supporting cast is good too. It's a good movie throughout and has a cool ending! Read more

This is an excellent light hearted comedy / action film. Penelope Cruz and Salma Hayek team up as partner "cowboys" robbing banks to avenge robbery and murder and there is great interaction between them. The bonus is that they are gorgeous. Steve Zahn becomes their lucky accomplice, which man wouldn't have liked to play his role ? The editing is slick and the fast pace never falters. There are snippets of appropriate classical music in the score which enhances the already lively sound track. The widescreen format is well used in the open landscapes and the moving camera gives a new dimension to the picture. I see that the film never had a nationwide studio release and it is certainly not heard of in the UK, what a shame ! Read more

By the end of this film, I didn't know which of the two leads I was crushing on the most. I've seen Salma Hayek do comedy, but I'd never seen Penelope Cruz like this. Steve Zahn was an inspired straight man, struggling after the two gorgeous leads as his world fell apart. Of course, the plot was preposterous but it was a fun ride to the finish. Read more

My all timer is Sophia Loren...NEXT is (was?) Penelope Cruz. Enter Salma and who WOULDN'T want to see this, if not just for the scenery? I am thoroughly twitterpated by Ms. Hayek. Not only is she gorgeous, but she's smart, funny, talented, and a great sport. Imagine my delight to discover that this is a slick, clever, beautifully filmed, FUNNY movie. I smiled throughout. No big laughs but lots of grins and chuckles. THIS is what escapist, sheer entertainment is all about. Bueno. Read more
