Reliable Phone Mount for Both My Car and Rental Cars
I got this phone holder both to install in my own car plus have it available to bring on trips to mount in my rental car. I'm happy to say that the product fits the bill. The kit comes with the car vent clip, pivoting phone mount, and two metal rings that will magnetically secure to the phone mount, even through the thick rubber backing of my Otterbox Defender case. I first found the optimal vent location in my 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe. I then spun (loosened) the rectangular tightening nut just behind the ball knuckle of the mount. This spread the foam lined jaws which ultimately grab onto the vent fins. After positioning the jaws around the best vent fin, I spun the tightening nut to close the jaws tightly on the fin. I then loosened the ring on the back side of the pivot mount to allow it to fit over top the pivot knuckle. Finally, I re tightened the ring (which required quite a bit of force) to secure the mount at an angle which would work well for my phone. Since my phone (Samsung Galaxy 22 Plus) is not magnetic, I had to slide one of the included metal rings into my phone case, just behind the rubber backing. The metal ring has a peel and stick surface on one side to allow it to adhere to either the back of a plastic case (as in my example) or directly to the back of the phone if necessary. The phone stays securely in place yet is also easily removable to separate it from the mount.
